An Exhausted EDM Crowd Turns Up For BeatfreQ II at Knitting Factory

An exhausted, music hungry crowd showed up to BeatfreQ II at the Knitting Factory March 9.

“I want to thank you guys for coming out tonight after Tiesto,” said DJ Dan, voted the number five DJ in the world by DJ Magazine’s Top 100 poll in 2006.

EDM die-hards did their best to show support for the local and well-known talent. Amongst the crowd was DJ Jeffrey Danger and Rubicon 7’s Brandon Scott. While BeatfreQ attracted darker dressed attendees than Tiesto, there were a few bear hats, LED gloves, hula-hoops and a sumo wrestler.

Keeping up with the house genre theme for the weekend, BeatfreQ had a well lit stage, where go-go girls danced throughout the night in front of lasers and strobe lights.

Boise’s own Dayne 5150, Jeremiah and Erik Lobe, opened for headliner DJ Dan with fast tempo house music. Jeremiah joined the crowd at the bar after his set.

Erik Lobe's set stood out among the mostly generic house music. Playing a set between Jeremiah and DJ Dan, Lobe warmed up the late arrivals. DJ Dan continued the house theme into the night by adding some heavier bass beats. Despite the much smaller scale, DJ Dan threw down a comparable set to his shows at the Starscape, Nocturne and Ultra festivals.
