Boise Music Festival Announces Lineup

Posted By on Wed, May 1, 2013 at 3:40 PM

The Boise Music Festival has never been known to push the envelope, but at least it made with the nostalgia in previous years by booking acts that remained killer even though they were dated.

The lineup it just announced for Saturday, July 27 at Expo Idaho, however, is more of a series of profiles in irrelevance.

Headliners include Candlebox (which wasn't even that important when they were relevant in the '90s), DJ Pauly D (of Jersey Shore) and ol' "Call Me Maybe" herself, Carly Rae Jepsen.

The only ray of light in the darkness is Vanilla Ice—a sentence you expected to read even less than I expected to write.

'Nilla's current big project, BTW, is a reality show where he builds houses with the Amish. Really. Well, that, and a commercial for Capitol Lighting: "It's lights, lights, baby," he swears in a heartfelt testimonial.

Oh, how far he's fallen since the days of the "Ninja Rap."

Also on the big stage is pop singer Jason Derulo (the poor man's Chris Brown), Hinder, (the poor man's Nickelback) and Dakota Bradley (the poor man's Jason Mraz).

The good news is that at this summer's Vanilla Ice Music Festival, there will also be somewhere in the neighborhood of 50 local acts that organizers have yet to announce. And almost none of them are at risk of playing "Call Me Maybe."
