Need Something To Do Friday?

The largest stated cause for divorce in the United States is finances. Couples on the out-and-out also talk about "things just not working out" or "irreconcilable differences." But other, stronger marriages can be split up due to nationality—when one spouse enjoys legal status in the United States and the other is trapped in quasi-legal limbo.

That's the subject of Amor and Exile, the book by former Boise Weekly News Editor Nathaniel Hoffman and Nicole Salgado that has been gifted to all 535 members of Congress (as well as members of the Supreme Court, Vice President Joe Biden and First Lady Michelle Obama) and will be launched locally today at 7 p.m. at Hyde Park Books.

Hoffman will discuss his experiences writing and publishing the book, delivering it to members of Congress and the need for immigration reform at the free event. Co-author Salgado will also be available via Skype from Mexico.

"People are looking for a new way of talking about immigration reform," Hoffman said. "Mostly it's about awareness."

Copies of the book will be available for purchase at Hyde Park Books.
