Need Something To Do Saturday?

Posted By on Sat, Jun 15, 2013 at 6:00 AM

Pride Week, a celebration of Boise's LGBT community, is coming to a close.

You can celebrate tonight from 7 p.m.-2 a.m. at Lucky Dog Tavern, which is throwing a Parking Lot Party. The parking lot at 2223 W. Fairview Ave. will be gated off to create a massive party space with a DJ, a food truck, a full bar outside and more than enough room for dancing.

Admission is $5.

Need Something To Do Saturday?

Posted By on Sat, Jun 18, 2011 at 8:00 AM

Pride Week officially ends today. If you've somehow missed out on the festivities—including gay-themed trivia and leather night—don't sweat it. There is plenty going on today to show your support for the LGBT community.

Start the day off on the steps of the Capitol at 10:30 a.m. for the Pride rally, and then at 11 a.m., join the Pride parade that winds its way through downtown to Ann Morrison Park, where the Boise Pride Festival will get into full swing. There is a $3 fee to get into the festival, but you can get tickets at the rally to avoid waiting in lines at the park.

In addition to music, food and drink (take your ID if you want an adult beverage), there will also be vendor booths set up in the park. There will be an opportunity to register for the 2nd Annual Northwest LGBTA Conference for Hope and the Idaho Safe Schools Coalition, The Community Center, Pride Foundation, A.L.P.H.A. and more will be available to offer their info and services to the LGBT community and their family and friends.

Wrap up the night—and the week—with the after-party at the Lucky Dog Tavern at 9 p.m. The parking lot will be blocked off, and drinks will be flowin' outside as well as in the bar. There is a $5 cover charge, and you have to be 21 to join in.

Der went da judge

Posted By on Thu, Jun 19, 2008 at 4:09 PM

A couple of weekends ago, I held sway at two quite different events. I was one of three judges responsible for choosing the 2008 Queer Idol as part of the Pride events and I was one of three judges responsible for choosing which father played the part of Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus well enough to win two tickets to see the teen diva in concert in Provo. The HM contest was put on by 103.3 KISS FM and emceed by my pal Hooker—with help from Chadillac and Lucky Tha DJ—the station's drive-time DJ. What was so fun for me is that Hooker played the Simon to my Paula for the Queer Idol judging as well. Along with Pride organizer Kris Jenkins playing Randy, we spent Thursday night at Hannah's for the preliminaries and Saturday evening for the finals, watching some of Boise's best belt their little hearts out and dashing their little dreams. Hooker's Simon was spot on, Kris' clearly channeled the big dawg producer and my Paula elicited a few "Is she really that drunk?" comments from the crowd. Congrats to Jared Michael for winning Queer Idol '08 and the father/daughter team pictured below for winning the HM/MC competition.
