What do 10 Barrel Brewing
and the world’s last Blockbuster Video
have in common? They both call Bend, Oregon, home, they love red licorice, and they really want you to try their new beer.
The beer, named The Last Blockbuster, is what happens when beer lovers and movie aficionados get together, according to Pub Operations Manager Justin Hyde. Hyde, the founding general manager for 10 Barrel’s Boise location, said the partnership was a match made in heaven.
“We’re always looking for a reason to have a beer,” he said. “We pitched the idea [to Blockbuster] and they loved it. They were immediately on board.”
For 10 Barrel fans, the beer will seem familiar. It is its S1nist0r Black Ale,
but with an appropriate movie-themed twist: It’s aged in with red licorice.
“It’s like movie night back in the day, when you would get your movie and get your candy to go with it," Hyde said.
The Last Blockbuster will be available for a limited time at all 10 Barrel locations but will officially make its debut at a block party at Blockbuster.
“Pun not intended,” Hyde said.
The party will be a good old-fashioned movie night, with beer, popcorn, and candy aplenty. Attendees will vote on what movie they want shown at the party and then will presumably pour a glass out for the last testament to a fallen empire.
