13th annual Trailing of the Sheep

The weekend of woolly festivities begins on Friday, Oct. 9 with afternoon workshops led by gourmet chefs on how to cook lamb, a gallery walk and an evening of music, poetry and storytelling. The Sheep Folklife Fair in Hailey on Saturday, Oct. 10 features regional artisans working with wool and demonstrations on shearing, carding, spinning and weaving and herding sheep. Enjoy the sounds and sights of Peruvian musicians and dancers, Oinkari Basque dancers, the Boise Highlanders, bagpipers and drummers, sheep wagon displays, children's activities, wool and crafts shops and lamb tastings. The nearly 100-year-old tradition of the Trailing of the Sheep happens on Sunday, Oct. 11. Follow behind the herd as they make their way down Main Street led by one of the local sheep ranching families along with historic sheep wagons, musicians and dancers.
