It was only a decade ago when the intersection of Meridian and Overland roads was surrounded by little more than open fields and farmhouses. Today, the area near the I-84 freeway that is now home to the popular Roaring Springs Water Park and Boondocks Fun Center is bursting with new commercial and residential development.

A half wall separates the living room and dining space, but the great room feels open and light because of east-facing windows that illuminate the interior naturally.

Dark carpeting in an Oreo cookie-brown color on the living room floor contrasts with the medium tone of cherry hardwood floors in the dining space and kitchen. The kitchen's natural alder cabinets are capped by ornate crown molding stained dark brown. The contrasting effect on the floors and the kitchen cabinets is eye-catching. Slab granite countertops, a travertine tile backsplash and appliances with stainless steel accents complete the kitchen.

The master bedroom features a coffered ceiling with a ceiling fan. The master bathroom has a dual vanity, a shower and a spacious walk-in closet.

At the top of the stairway is a "flex space" with built-in cubbies. It could be used as a computer nook, a toy room for younger children or as a reading area. The house's roofline creates a symmetrically angled ceiling in each of the two upper bedrooms. A full bathroom with a built-in shower/bathtub combo completes the top floor.

Pros: This energy-efficient patio home is located close to shopping and the freeway.

Cons: The neighborhood is still under construction, so dust and noise could be a bother until the project is complete.
