If you are looking for new construction in Boise, you have many options. As you head west, new homes become more prevalent, each boasting amenities galore and most featuring an oversized entry. The subdivisions tend to look the same, with variations of beige on each home and a meandering sidewalk throughout. Occasionally you come across one that dares to be different, and Sunningdale Estates, located off Ustick, is one such example.

This week's featured house on Campton Way is not your usual beige. It immediately strikes you, as do most of the homes surrounding it, with its unique and bold color scheme. The primary color is a dark shade of yellow, highlighted by copper trim on one of the rooflines and a burnt orange door. This is not for the color-shy, and it may not sound like a winning combination, but I can assure you that not only does it work, it is refreshing in its deviation from the norm.

The entry opens to a sweeping staircase, with the formal living and dining areas to your right. To the left, the hallway circles around past a full bath and an office, which could be used as a bedroom if needed, as it has a full closet. Beyond the office is the family room, the centerpiece of which is a fireplace with a remarkable custom wood mantle. The family room opens into the kitchen, another area that is distinctive in its design choices. The cabinetry along the wall is natural wood, while the island and the built-in buffet area are painted black, and distressed around the edges. The counters are all granite and lead into a tile backsplash.

The second story features a large master suite, two smaller bedrooms, a full bathroom and a large bonus room. The bonus room includes a closet, giving the buyer the option of making it a bedroom as well. Each of the rooms has large closets, with built-in shelving systems and upgraded sliding doors. The windows and doorways are all trimmed and have moulding--a small detail that adds a great deal in visual appeal. The colors throughout the interior are earthy and calming.

The yard is average size for the new construction in the surrounding areas, and the home has a three-car garage, which looks huge but seems to be the standard of the era. The floor plan is unique and flows well from room to room, and the builder has done a nice job using similar elements throughout the home to provide continuity.

PROS: The distinctive look of the home cannot be ignored. Its interior is spacious and comfortable. At $299,900, it has to be a much more interesting choice than most of the competition.

CONS: It is located as far west as you can go and still be within the city of Boise, which means that the best way to get there from downtown is the heavily-trafficked Eagle Road.
