3701 Crescent Rim Dr.

This four-story, light brown brick building comprised of 40 or so condominiums is located at the end of Crescent Rim Drive overlooking Ann Morrison and Katherine Albertson parks, where it features unimpeded views of the foothills.

The Realtor let me in the locked, security doorway on the first floor corridor of the building. The condo I'm touring is in the center of the L-shaped building. Since the unit is on the first floor, the view does not extend down into the parks, but the foothills are perfectly visible. The condo has a small fenced-in patio leading to a nicely landscaped common area with a big pool. The large common area is fully fenced.

The living room has laminate wood floors, which extend throughout the house. The walls are painted a light green with white baseboards, and the kitchen has been remodeled with black granite countertops and stainless steel appliances. The island in the kitchen is lit by two pendant lamps and some modern stainless steel swivel lighting. It also includes a breakfast bar. Tucked in the corner is the dining area featuring additional built-in cabinets. The final detail I notice in this living/dining/kitchen area is that the ceiling is exposed steel beam, which gives the space a great modern look. The kitchen, dining room and living room are all open to each other, and therefore, the unit's fantastic view of the foothills can be seen from each room.

Immediately off the corridor to the bedrooms is the first bathroom. The floor is still the original small tile installed in the '60s but it has been repainted a slate green. The sink is set in a light wood cabinet. The shower is small but perfectly maintained with a tile ceiling.

Next door is a generously sized second bedroom. It has a dropped white ceiling, and is painted a gray-green accented with white baseboards and crown moldings. There is a big wall closet, and a high window looking out to the front corridor.

A turn of the corridor leads to the master bath featuring a tub/shower combination and a sparkling clear glass shower surround. The original '60s tile and color is preserved in this room, and it is an attractive pattern of blue and blue-green blocks. The master bedroom is the largest bedroom, and is painted a light chocolate with white baseboards and crown molding. The room includes a well-sized wall closet with a curtain and a window that opens onto the living room patio.

A $339 monthly association fee for each condo in this building is assessed, but the steep fee includes everything except telephone expense. That means the owner does not have to pay gas, electricity, air conditioning, expanded cable, exterior maintenance, etc. As one would expect, each unit has its own thermostat, however, the washers and dryers are located in the building's basement, accessible by elevator. Each unit also has a separate locked storage unit in the basement. Covered parking for the residents is available in the large parking lot, which is fully fenced.

Pros: This condominium has been totally renovated with great taste and beauty. Many elegant details are available throughout the unit, and nothing strikes a sour note. The new owner can sit on the patio sipping morning coffee and enjoy an inspiring, calming view. Being on the first floor, the owner can open the gate from the patio and be steps away from the swimming pool. And for entertaining large parties, the building has a common room available for residents to reserve.

Cons: The window in the master bedroom is small and opens out onto the patio, so only a sideways view of the foothills is available. All the windows seem to be aluminum single-paned, but I guess if the association is paying for heat, the residents don't have to worry about heat loss.
