80s Alley Cat

Weekend fundraiser for BBP

Boise's newest bike club, Boise Adventure Seekers, is throwing a 1980s-themed alley cat race that falls somewhere between a VH1 special and a bike rally.

On Saturday, June 20, come decked out in your best ’80s duds and ready to ride on a 2.5-hour chase across Boise. Riders won't be racing just to turn heads with their big hair, they’ll be raising money for Boise Bike Project.

"Our goal is to raise $500," said organizer Beau Greener. "We want as many people to come as we can get."

Boise Bike Project is a volunteer group that helps outfit low income families and individuals with rebuilt, donated bikes, as well as functioning as an open community bike shop for anyone who wants to learn some mechanical skills.

While costumed race attire isn't mandatory, some savvy thrift store shopping will ensure you won't be laughed at for a lack of acid-wash jeans. Registration costs $10 and begins at 4 p.m. at Camel's Back Park. Winners will get trophies, while everyone who rides will go home with a T-shirt. The after party will be held at Ha'penny Bridge Irish Pub and Grill, where gear and goods donated by sponsors such as George's Cycles, Urban Velo and Old Chicago will be raffled off.

Founded on the common interests of riding bikes, drinking beer and enjoying life, Boise Adventure Seekers have high hopes

for their debut alley cat. "If we can make this annual, that would be pretty cool," organizer Craig Tanner told BW.
