Re: “Ha' Penny Bridge Irish Pub and Grill

For the celebration of my wife's graduation from grad school we decided to make reservations at Ha'penny for us and about 25 close friends and family members. We chose Ha'penny based on prior positive experiences but what a disappointment it turned out to be. Everyone in our group had come together to purchase a $350 gift card for my wife for her achievement and upon opening the greeting card she set it down to say thank you to everyone and mingle. The restaurant was not overly crowded that night and our table was surrounded by long-time friends and family so there was no reason to be concerned about setting purses, coats, gifts, etc. at the table. By the time my wife returned to the table either the waiter or the busser had cleared everything off of our table even though our group was still there and all of our items (coats, purses, etc.) were still on the table and in plain sight. Included in the items cleared off of the table were the greeting card and the gift card. Immediately we started searching for it and mysteriously the waiter found the greeting card in the garbage can but couldn't find gift card anywhere (all of which was witnessed by the manager and a few others). The manager working that shift helped us look for it but was convinced that we would be able to have it replaced by calling the gift card company in the morning. We weren't having any luck finding it so we decided that perhaps he was right and we would call the company first thing in the morning.

We called the gift card company immediately the next morning but it did not resolve the issue because they could only replace the gift card with the receipt which was wrapped around the gift card when it disappeared. My wife spent the next week talking to the manager daily that had been there that night with promises that he was working on it. After a week of discussions she was told that he had talked to the owner who responded that they are not responsible for lost or stolen items. This was such a disappointment because this was not a "lost or stolen" item as a result of negligence on the part of the restaurant patron. The gift card had disappeared as a direct result of one of the employees of the restaurant. We would never have expected reimbursement if it had fallen out of a pocket or was set down in the restroom but this was on the table which we were all still at and at the restaurant that we collectively spent $2,500 - $3,000 at that night. My wife was told that she might be better off calling the owner directly.

At this point I decided to attempt to contact the owner myself. I called the restaurant two days in a row, both times the person who answered the phone asked the owner if he was available and in the background he responded with “who is it and what is it about?” After telling the person on the phone who I was, I was told the owner “would get back with me.” He never did. After two days without a phone call I called again and in the background the owner stated that “there is nothing I can do.” I requested that he take a moment to talk to me himself but he declined. As a business owner myself, I understand how things like this can happen. I also understand that you cannot open the books to everyone who feels they’ve been wronged in your establishment. But what I cannot even begin to fathom is how an owner of a customer service-oriented business could take such a cowardly approach and not even show a loyal patron some common courtesy.

This whole experience was excruciatingly disappointing for several reasons. First off, someone on their staff likely ended up with a $350 gift card that they didn't earn or deserve. Second (and most of importantly), the owner was completely unwilling to take a moment to discuss the situation and tell us no to our faces…or even over the phone! We have been paying customers at Ha'penny for many years and we brought a lot of people to the restaurant that night but the owner could not be bothered with talking to us. We have been very calm, patient and good to deal with through this whole experience so what a let-down it was to get completely blown off. This review is not being written to be slanderous but in hopes that when given the opportunity to enjoy a nice night out that folks will spend their money at one of the many other excellent restaurants in Boise. We've been to so many other places where the food and drinks are better and the owners actually care about their customers’ dining experience. Spend your hard earned money somewhere besides Ha’penny.

Re: “Crescent Brewery

This place is worth finding, great ales. Jerry and staff are real friendly. Take your growler and get a fill-up for later. They generally have music on Saturdays and comedy/open mic during the week. No food but you can bring it with you...

The address is actually 1521 Front Street in downtown Nampa. Take 15th Avenue South off of 1st Street South (head towards the tracks), go right on Front street (looks like an alley), Brewery is on the left.

Re: “Bardenay

I hope this does not sound arcane but Bardenay reminds me of Les Schwab. The staff at each are superbly trained. The product is high quality at a very reasonable price. The staff seems so earnest in working hard so that customers enjoy the experience and want to tell their friends about it and return for more. There is a science to that kind of staff performance, and these two places have nailed it.

Re: “Main Street Bistro

"This place really ruined a good night, my brother was drunk and tried to go in about 10 mins to close and they motioned the cops over and had him arrested for trespassing."

I wonder if that is because your brother had been kicked out of there before and told not to return or if he was making a scene that specific time. I cannot see someone pressing charges for him just trying to go in 10 minutes to close and walking away peacefully if he was turned down. Your brother did something you are not telling us.

Re: “Chandlers Steakhouse

I love corn fed beef and disdain idiots who don't know any better. Great atmosphere and wine selection. Have done Thanksgiving dinner there for years and always had a great experience.

Re: “Characters

Michael Bernard is the drunk on the stool closest to the door. If you like wasted, you'll like Michael. He'll tie one on here then head for the Torch or Gil's to top off the night before ending his binge when the sun comes up. What a total drunk....

Re: “Quinn's Restaurant and Lounge

To whomever can see this post, I wouldn't recommend reading alot of what is posted before me if you possess any common sense. If you are still reading, I would recommend from hereforth not to participate in commenting on any article on the internet, because seeing what I have here, I see it as an attack to keep people in a mental state of tyranny. This article only points out that a bar has lost buisness. If you have analyized posts across the web today, you will come to the realization that over half of the comments you read are made with out any real intelligent thought. It is not because the population really is succumbing to forced retardation, it is simply one of many different thoughts that would be benificial for you to think. Some people use the word troll or shill or idiot to describe these people but, unfortunately these are not real people. obviously its posted by a human, but if you find out that there are companies to pay these ghost writers to spew ridiculous views to things such as this, then what i am saying might spark something. I stopped watching national cable news and television years ago. There are free and cheaper ways for watching shows and staying informed. I really like boise weekly as one of them. Just dont let the unseen agenda that is going on get to you or break you. Think about it is all I ask. If you did read everything that I just wrote here, well good sir/madamme, or gaga, you have earned my respect because I would have been on another webpage by now after my first sentence. Stay Strong

Re: “Revolution Concert House and Event Center

After attending another concert at the Revolution I was very satisfied. It seems that the Bone thugs show on Dec 1, 2012 was a bad night for the concert house. When I went to Snoop Lion, the sound was thundering, the lights were spot on and the stage changes were much more professionally done. They addressed my concerns and I was very satisfied. I am attending the West Coast Fest on the tenth and look forward to it.

Re: “The New Frontier Club

If negative 5 stars was an option, i'd give it that. the bartender is a known pedophile...AND I found a piece of glass in my beer. What else, I thought could possibly happen during the 10 mins that i was there? Well, on my way out I decided to use the bathroom and this biker chic was in the mens bathroom doing speed on this guys ass crack. fucking great.

Re: “Overland Bar

Totally love this bar. A true Idaho dive bar: no windows, lukewarm drinks, crusty regulars, lots of handshakes and pats on the back, and karaoke every night almost exclusively country music (except for the occasional killer rendition of "Love Shack" from a visiting Scottish gal named Joan and her Boise BFF Kelly).

P.S. This is a must-visit dive bar. Don't listen to the bar snobs who posted above here - what are they doing at a dive bar anyway if they don't like black velvet nudes??? ;) They need to stick to Hyde Park with the other spoiled brats and grandma-bicycle hemp-necklace hippies.
