Re: “Are Boise rents too high?

When it's more cost effective to rent a 1400 sq ft house compared to a 800 sq ft apartment in the same area - yes, rents out of wack with income. Rent for the house I rent is just over $1000/m: the apt I looked into prior to renting the house wanted $950/m plus another $100/m for my dogs - basically coming to what I paid in rent at the house. Short of moving to Kuna or Nampa (were I would pay for commuter costs), I couldn't find anything decent for less than $1k/month for myself and son. As such, 75% my net wages go to pay my rent and I have a fairly decent paying job.

Re: “Are Boise rents too high?

My sister lives in a small apartment in Boise off of Ustick and Maple Grove. Nothing is updated and she has mold in her apartment. They are paying $650 and the complex wants to raise it to $720 and they want them to start paying a portion of the water sewer trash. They are a family of four in a two bedroom one bath and about 700 square feet. Wages may be low but, if you raise the wages they raise everything else. They will raise food costs, gas costs, costs of other items to survive.

Re: “Are Boise rents too high?

My apartment complex just raised my rent (again, for the 4th time now in a 2 year timespan) from $995 which was already high to over $1400 for the 1000 sq ft 3B2B apt overlooking a lovely parking lot and trailer park. IN BOISE?

I don't know about you all, but my income hasn't risen that much.

Re: “Are Boise rents too high?

We paid $1500 for our last two rentals, that's insane for the cost of living and salaries in Boise. Something has to be adjusted!

Re: “Are Boise rents too high?

I'm not sure if it's the rent that is too high, or if the wages are too low. Other places have much higher rent, but Idaho leads the nation in minimum wage jobs so it probably doesn't make much of a difference.

Re: “Do you agree with Gov. Otter that the U.S. should halt its refugee resettlement program pending review?

The web-poll is a variant on mob rule, so take it with a grain of salt. For those augmenting their yes votes with a comment with caps lock on, well, "nuff said." As for helping veterans and homeless, actions speak louder than your keyboard, and can certainly be taken regardless of how we continue with the refugee program.

Re: “Do you agree with Gov. Otter that the U.S. should halt its refugee resettlement program pending review?

When we have fulfilled our promises to our own veterans, and our own homeless. We should give freely to those in need. BUT, we should not be so blind as to assist those who would destroy us enter our homes. It is not heartless to ask that a refugee prove they are of no threat. The poem on the statue of liberty speaks of those seeking freedoms offered by this country it does not offer an open invitation to those who refuse to assimilate to our culture. Pray as you wish to whom you wish or not at all but do not propose to ell everyone around you that they have to change their lives to suit you. I fully support legal immigration and the assistance to refugees that can prove they are not terrorists. But the evidence from Europe indicates that many of them are terrorists. Still we need to care for our own first, we need to secure the safety and security of our citizens so we can offer freely the freedom guaranteed by the Statue of Liberty.

Re: “Do you agree with Gov. Otter that the U.S. should halt its refugee resettlement program pending review?

I agree with Governor Otters stand. We should have some fear about any refugee or illegal immigrant at this time. The time is pertinent in reconizing people from the Middle East want to kill Americans. Refugees are trying to enter as sheep when they are wolves.Do we have an immiment need to protect our homeland? It is gut smart to know most won't try to kill us but some entering will. We have cells growing in our nation now. To bring more in without getting refugees vetted just as we did to a simplier degree when people came to Ellis Island during a more innocent time in our history. Some came to Ellis Island and were refused entry. It has never truly been a blanket invitation to the weak and weary.

Rob Greenwood do you work with the homeless? Were you concern with their well being before last week? Do you donate to charities who help the hungry, oppressed or sick?

USA the Recruitment Wing of ISIS... Their stratagyis painting the image of Islam vs. the Crusaders. Some folks are talking putting ID badges on Muslims! Or even outlawing the religion all together. Crazy!

And our violent response is ISIS's biggest recruiting mechanism and also part of their plan... For every civilian killed in a drone strike, 3 terrorists are born... The USA tilled the ground and planted the seeds that ISIS grew from and now we continue to waters the crops..

SO happy to see how the vote has gone so far with this issue. 64 agree with Governor Otter, 298 disagree with him at this moment as i am writing. i cast the 298th vote against his paranoia. i do understand that this IS the Boise Weekly though, a generally progressive publication with fewer Republican readers. It is still heartwarming!

Pat, you and your kind are truly scary. Thank goodness most of us understand what makes this country great and it is nothing like you present.

Hey guys, even Pat is a person. If we want him/her to behave with any amount of humanity, we have got to demonstrate the same value. It's hard, but the commitment is worth it.

Gee, Pat does someone have you locked in your house? Last I checked pretty easy to leave Idaho or the United States. Have a good trip!

Pat Rice.... You are what is wrong with America, Idaho and conservative... You disgust me.

And Governor "Otter-not" is just pandering to the foaming-at-the-mouth dimbulbs like Pat Rice.... Otter is all about doing something unconstitutional again so that he can waste more taxpayer dollars on stupid lawsuits.
