Re: “Funny Bone Finals - Critical Mass - San Ignazio - Boise Thunder

Civil Disobedience? As an avid cyclist, the asinine BW blurb about this evening's critical mass event disturbs me. The notice contains some not very subtle innuendo: snip<"this year's organizers are billing the event in a fuzzy, feel good positive kind of way, calling a 'celebration of city life and virtues of cycling.' While the BW certainly applauds the effort to be nice, we're also an office full of bike commuters with tales of narrowly averting accidents thanks to nonexistent bike lanes near our office downtown.">end snip. This under the topical heading "Civil Disobedience for the Biker". It sounds like the BW would prefer that things got nasty. Makes for good copy I guess. What I resent (as a regular bike commuter) is the paradox whereby the BW staff come off as morally superior beings because they care enough to bike commute, but are victims nonetheless due to inadequate bike lanes. So a hissy fit is in order. Cry me a river. The last thing I want to do is make more enemies for bicyclists. Compared to other cities, bike commuting in this town is a dream (despite the close calls we all experience, it comes with the turf). Could things be better? Hell yes! If you think navigating downtown is tough, try joining me twice each day as I ride the guantlet around Cole and Overland. If critical mass advocates really wanted to challenge motorists, that's the place to test your will. Do we need a riot? I don't think so. But CM events in places like Portland and San Francisco get very roudy and piss off commuters who just want to get home but are blocked by anarchist molcontents. The vast majority of Boise motorists are very tolerant of bicyles. But it seems the BW staff want to kick that sleeping dog a few times. My advice, if the BW staff get their wish and the CM turns from "fuzzy feelgood" into a WTO style wanabe melee; just ride away. Come bac for the Tour De Fat at Julia Davis Park on August 25. Bike parade 11a.m. beer, bikes and broohaha at noon. Happy Trails! tkh

The web page is working great. Got exactly the information I needed (hey what time is Jr. Brown tonight?) fast and easy. Great job, much easier then that lame Z-idaho crap!
