Re: “Want More Wars? Raise Taxes on the Rich

Communism is what caused this mess. And this guy thinks the way to fix it is more communism? Wow! I'd say the dumbing down of America is just about complete.

Re: “Want More Wars? Raise Taxes on the Rich

Warren Buffett, billionaire, pays a total tax rate (federal, state, local & corporate) of 11% of his income and investment gains. A typical single person earning a minimum wage pays taxes amounting to 22% of her wages, a 100-fold higher rate than Mr. Buffett’s.

The top 1% in the US have gone from owning 22% to 40% of the nation's wealth in the last thirty years. This is largely due to the tax cuts for the wealthy investor class, started under Reagan. They were supposed to encourage investment and strengthen the economy. Since then, the average annual GDP growth dropped by one-quarter.

The favored tax treatment for investments and the wealth concentration that resulted leads to the demand for investments exceeding the supply of worthy investments ... Investment bubbles ... Recessions ... All but the wealthiest are at risk of losing their jobs, homes, retirement savings.

Re: “Socialist Capitalists?

The left has always adored the dreamy efficiency and agility of a fair and just master. Liberty and Freedom are historical anomalies. Societies usually iterate governance toward to strong, centrally controlled, tyrant. Of course, the iterations start with promises of supplying provisions and removing risk. Before the masses discover the con, it is usually too late.

There are those that still wait for Obama to fulfill his promises of 2007 and 2008: transform a broken country to a collective where adequate provisions will be supplied, and risk will be removed.

Never, ever let the Left lead during serious times.

Re: “Socialist Capitalists?

It makes me ill to think that people admire Mitt and the "Vulture Capitalists".
If one of those types were put in the White House, I fear what the United States would turn into.
It would be like putting Gordon Gecko in as President..

Re: “Suicidal Ruling Class

With all this talk of "the 1%" and the "ruling class" how can Jews not be mentioned?

2% of the population controls an overwhelming amount of news and entertainment media outlets but it's never mentioned. Isn't that strange?

Re: “Boycott 2012 Election

How about doing a "Tea Party" yep a "Tea Party" this group successfully moved repubs further right as a political entitiy. Liberal values need to push back and do the hard work. If not don't stay home, look for an alternative that reflects Liberal Values, perhaps the Green Party or a specific individual in your community. Just say'n!

Re: “Boycott 2012 Election

Since you're not using your vote anyway...would you mind giving it to the Green Party?

Seriously, if Jill Stein is on your ballot as the Green Party candidate for President (and she probably will be for 90% of the electorate), vote for someone who actually has spent her life working for an agenda that actually reflects your values!

"Oh, but not enough people will vote for the Greens to change things"
-- Yeah but you think enough people will boycott the election to change things? Sweetie, right-wingers *love* it when fewer people vote. They try to pass laws to get fewer people to vote *all* the *time*!

"It doesn't matter *who* I vote for"
-- If you really think it doesn't matter, then it doesn't matter if you vote Green then, right? So show a modicum of faith in the thousands of Greens who really want to make a difference and help us out by making a national party out of a group that swore off *all* corporate donations and lobbying money from the very start.

Ted didn't even acknowledge the existence of third parties in his column. This perpetuates a logic of exclusion -- the Democrats and Republicans rely on people not knowing there are alternatives (especially at the local level, where Greens win offices).

Jill Stein is a great candidate who is running to build the Green Party into an electoral force to *really* address climate change, the economy and endless wars. Check out and watch live online on January 25th at 8:30pm ET when she rebuts Obama's State of the Union Address.

Yeah, I'm a volunteer. I promote things I care about on the Internet. And you don't?

Re: “Suicidal Ruling Class

The elite don't and won't do much to save themselves, since they've done a superb job of insulating themselves through the use of public education, which is deliberately designed to dumb the population down to the point that we really are living in an Idiocracy. Isn't this already obvious enough or hasn't the author of the article been paying attention. Maybe the author also missed the fact that the elite's pick has been and is directed to continue to play the economic inequality card while also continuing to vote for virtually everything that increases that inequality. Enough of the dumbed down public will buy the 'change you can believe in' con that they'll vote Mr. Change back in for another term.

Hey guys I think I found an example of the kind of sub-par hackwork Ted's complaining about:

But Ted, you're a terrible cartoonist yourself. Maybe you should quit so as not to risk being seen as a hypocrite. Or at least take a course in human anatomy (hint: women only have two breasts!).

Re: “The War of Christmas

Maybe "Jesus is the reason for the season" in the heart of Christians, but I don't think all the retailers feel that way. I think Christmas is already a secular holiday. Why bother replacing it with something else? This is a money driven holiday in a money driven society. Good luck getting it "removed."

Re: “The War of Christmas

You are a worthless (I'll be generous) human being. If I asked "a penny for your thoughts"... I'd get change back.

You lived all these years and this garbage is all you can come up with? If it wasn't for 'the devolving' of people's I.Q., your audience would be a captive one... mental institution or prison; one...

Re: “Mission Accomplished

The Left has always believed that if you outlaw war or defund the military, then evil will disappear and peace will be at hand. That thinking requires a childlike and wrong initial condition: all people are basically good. History and logic disagree.
