Re: “The Occupiers' Choice

"Until now, the violence at the Occupations has all been initiated by the police." straight up lie Ralls. Investigation into the Occupy Oakland riots has shown that Black Bloc criminals started it. Your insane drivel is Anarchist proganda.

Re: “The Occupiers' Choice

"First let's define terms. Vandalism, theft and destruction of property are not violence. Inanimate objects do not suffer. Violence can only be inflicted upon living beings. Breaking a window may or may not be morally justified, but it is never violence."

Ted Rall endorser of Reichstagesque tactics. You, Mr. Rall are pathetic and ignorant.

Re: “The Occupiers' Choice

In reference to RCB's comment; I agree. Also, the 'revolution'that ended apartheid in South Africa, was non-violent, for the most part. The violence was done by the former government and the racists (black and white). So, with good leadership that is dedicated to non-violence, a major progressive change in our culture can occur without it becoming a 'civil war'.

Re: “The Occupiers' Choice

RCB... a couple of freshman basic macro economic courses would help clear things up for you. I suggest a local community college... much better value.

OWS Salt Lake City chaos....…

Still fear the teaparty? What a utopian joke... can't even govern a small encampment. Literally death and destruction. Democrat Party and Unions still all in.

Re: “The Occupiers' Choice

Even liberal progressive Portland has had enough. Leftists always make things worse, take things apart, destroy and then count on their benefactors to come in later to clean up their mess.…

Fatal shootings in Vermont and Oakland. Adults will start to dismantle the OWS camps all over the country. Aligning with this group reveals either ignorance, bad motives, or lack of wisdom.

Re: “The Occupiers' Choice

You will never hear a member of the left utter the fact that public and private employee unions are huge special interest groups with deep pockets. They own the democrat party.

They also assume the tax payer is ignorant.…

Re: “The Occupiers' Choice

They need not choose violence OR failure. The writers false dichotomous choices are based on several instances of flawed logic and sometimes outright ignorance. The only violence inherent in either Gandhi's revolution or the Civil Rights Movement came at the hands of the police and from the ruling elite, not from members of the movement. And therefore contrary to what the author claims, BOTH these movements were in fact successful in getting the status quo changed and power being transferred, at least partially, from the ruling elite to those in the movements without any violence from those within the movement.

Re: “The Occupiers' Choice

I don't find anything funny about any of this at all. If the rich were fair and not so greedy, none of this would be happening. The rich buy the laws that are being made and the poor have to resort to what ever means necessary to get laws passed in their favor. The riches money does not go to social security because of loophole write offs but yet they get to draw on it for example. Just how is that fair and now they want to do away with social security and medicare and force the poor to buy health insurance and if they don't, more money will be taken from them through income tax penilties. Whats so fair and funny about that?

Is being on the left a sign of a mental disorder, or does it cause mental disorder?

Re: “Cut-and-Paste Revolution, Part I

In my opinion it's imperative not to engage in acts of civil disobedience - we must
function within the establishment to foster a positive and well defined goal within our society. The so called democracies at work in the middle east will likely result in
turmoil and are inappropriate for our culture.

Re: “Young and In Hate

It's not just the young. Democracy is more or less dead for everyone. In most of the country the fix is in, the district boundaries gerrymandered, the outcome inevitable. Since the 1950s only one House elect ion (1964) saw less than 90% of House incumbents re-elected. For the past 30 years it has been over 95% and for much of that time 98% - or MORE - of House incumbents are re-elected. Demoracy has been largely dead since the 1950s...and the price has been paid in laws that advantage the few and disadvantage the many. Despite the many blessings the United States has, these are now being overwhelmed by the consequences of bad law and failed policies that serve the needs of a tiny, powerful minority. It isn't just the young who should be angry. Butat least they are paying attention where many of their elders aren't.
