Re: “What the Hell is a Honey Boo Boo?

So I get that hating on Honey Boo Boo is a thing right now, and that TLC has fallen far from its NASA-funded origins, and that "Here Comes Honey Boo Boo" and "Toddlers and Tiaras" might represent a lot of what is wrong with America's festishization of youth, sex, beauty, and celebrity, but if we're going to waste time writing about it can we at least get some analysis or discussion of the issue, rather than heaping scorn and ridicule on a child?

Here we have a (presumably) grown-ass man taking time out of his day to call a six year-old girl a "cultural catastrophe," "vile," "despicable," "the monstrous manifestation of a fever dream," "creepy," an "emblem of decay," "disturbing," and "fat."

What's more we have an editorial staff, also presumably adults, who thought that this screed would serve as cultural critique, and was fit to publish.

Re: “1600 Penn: Must-Flee TV

This review originally ended much funnier:

But even worse, the episodes end with lessons – a bunch of bumper-sticker moralizing about embracing family. If you watch the show, you should heed its lesson, though. Hug your family tight, pray to a benevolent God for mercy, and prepare to be trampled by one of the Four Horsemen of biblical lore.

To Paul (assuming you're real): Yes, I'm a jerk. I also don't use the [blank]-[anything] technique. Advance an actual argument, assuming you want to debate, and then I'll respond properly.

Re: “1600 Penn: Must-Flee TV

My syphilitic pet sloth was horribly disfigured in a comedy club fire, you jerk. Next time you should be more considerate of owners of promiscuous exotic pets who happen to love the ART of stand-up comedy before making what, at the surface, would appear to be harmless random analogies. RIP Pokey.

"He's more like a sloth with syphilis in a burned-down comedy club." Wow. Agenda much? Bad day, or are you just a jerk?

Re: “Boise Classic Movies Raises The Roof with Raising Arizona

Good write-up, but Raising Arizona didn't reach the 200-ticket tipping point on boiseclassicmovies.com. Sadly, it won't be showing after all.

Re: “Death of a Sales Office

Who cares? Why would someone even bother writing about this dead horse of a show?

Re: “Oliver Stone's Gospel of America

Also, are you suggesting I didn't "watch and evaluate"?

Re: “Oliver Stone's Gospel of America

"After the fact"? It's still going on. I wrote about only the first two episodes. And it's definitely about Oliver Stone, by the way, but it's also fun to watch precisely because it's fucking ridiculous.

Re: “Oliver Stone's Gospel of America

I prefer to watch and evaluate. This series is obviously NOT about Oliver Stone in spite of the efforts of his critics to make it so after the fact.

Re: “Spike Lee: Django Unchained is Disrespectful

Spike Lee! Isn't he the one who tried to arrange a good old American LYNCHING of that guy who shot that kid? Why are we even paying attention to what that murdering racist has to say??

Re: “Spike Lee: Django Unchained is Disrespectful

There's a reason why SOME religions do not encourage watching movies. Distorted Perceptions.

Re: “Spike Lee: Django Unchained is Disrespectful

Ya know what, when Hollywood has to start worryin about every single circumstance in films that may offend someone, then maybe films should stop being made and all the high priced totally over paid actors can all get a job at Wal-mart or Burger king like the rest of us! Nuff said!

Re: “Oliver Stone's Gospel of America

Thanks, Joel. Well said and great use of the H.L. Mencken quote. If Stone ever does a Mencken movie, it will focus on his weird hair.

Re: “Finding Bigfoot: The 'Squatchiest' Show on TV

Thanks for the biological and biblical insight, Squatchy McGee. I will, per your suggestion, squatch on -- but I won't be calm about it.

Re: “Finding Bigfoot: The 'Squatchiest' Show on TV

Who are we to say if the Bible does or does not contain references to Bigfoot? It has proven to be less than rigorous when dealing with biology. Let's keep the door open on this one.

Be Calm and Squatch On!

Re: “The Hobbit Criticized for Speedy Frames

Dear Mr Jackson and New Line Pictures,

I couldn't wait to see it in 48fps at the Cineplex Younge and Eglinton in Toronto in Dolby Atmos but had to leave after 10 minutes due to them showing it at probably 60fps! Bilbo walked too quickly and the whole opening was overlyfast in screen actions.
I'm a film and tv editor by trade and know when the action speed is too quick. I understand that 48fps doesn't make action faster.

I reported it and a lady on duty said she couldnt watch it either?
I think they really need a phone call or email Mr Jackson to put them right so another few thousand don't experience the same I have.

Yours Sincerley

Rob Chandler

sheesh...seems like someone is always going to complain about something and then someone is going to write about it on the interwebs

Re: “Finding Bigfoot: The 'Squatchiest' Show on TV

The BIBLE has been out in paperback since 1981! READ IT! It doesn't say anything about BIGFOOT! You have no idea what I'm talking about!
