Re: “How Agriculture in Ada County is Being Edged Off the Map

The Boise City Council already subverts its present and past comprehensive plans. What makes you think they will adhere to future plans? They bow only to pressure from developers and refuse to demand any level of planning or requirement from them. Make a rule, the City will disregard it.

Re: “How Agriculture in Ada County is Being Edged Off the Map

As someone who has watched this process for 40 years, welcome to the realization that we aren't what we used to be. We used to hunt pheasants where Capital High School sits, and thousands of acres of seed corn provided food for 750,000 mallards wintering on Lake Lowell.

Gone are Manley's, State Street Court, The Pantry, The Royal, the Save-on, Murphy's, etc., but we have 23 McDonalds! Growth sucks!

Re: “The Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future Beg Boise to Rethink Homelessness

It's kind of ironic that since Xtreme Xtrravagana has raised it's rates and given over most of the seating to high-roller corporate donors it has become an exclusive event which many of us can no longer afford.

I knew groups of people who would get together and go in past years. Now I don't know anyone who goes. It is great that they are raising money for the homeless, but unfortunate it has become just one more exclusive Boise event that is beyond the reach of many.

Re: “The Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future Beg Boise to Rethink Homelessness

Comments are back? It's a CHRISTMAS MIRACLE!!

Prentice: "Exposure to the winter elements has claimed many lives of homeless men and women in Boise..." If that is the case, they sure keep it under wraps. I can only remember a handful of such incidents... and some of them could probably be attributed as much to intoxication, as homelessness.

Peterson: "I truly learned about those who are shelter-resistant. Suddenly everything turned on its head." Perhaps in a follow-up, some of those people/stories could be shared. Frankly, it can be difficult for us working-class folks to feel a lot of sympathy for people who willfully reject the free facilities that are made available, because they are "resistant."

This may sound harsh... but how do we (taxpayers and charitable-minded citizens) provide comfortable facilities, meals, etc., for homeless folks, without attracting MORE homeless folks? Like the movie says, "Build it and they will come."

Chronic homelessness - it's an issue, all right! And no easy answer.

Re: “(Not) For Profit

I was the Director of MRI Center of Idaho for it's first sixteen years and grew that to a 15 magnet operation from Boise to Seattle and all points elsewhere in the Northwest. We were know nationally for our MRI quality

I reported to the Board of Directors that included the hospitals in Nampa, Caldwell and was instrumental in bringing Holy Rosary on board. That board included 5 of the best physcians in Boise. I created the documentation trail that led the jury to it's verdict. I was deposed by 6 attorneys for 2 full days.

Sandra Bruce got exactly what she deserved. I know Roger Curran turn over in his grave the day that verdict was announced. God Bless you Roger, you were the best.

Re: “Anti-Vaxx to the Max

From above: "Vaccine preventable diseases do not exist."

HAHAHAHAHAH! Have you every heard of Smallpox? Tetanus? Pertussis? Oh my god, pertussis - sure, as an adult, you can handle a bit of coughing, but an infant with pertussis is going to the hospital. The pertussis vaccine is not perfect, but it has saved countless lives. I repeat - vaccines have worked so well, we forgot how bad the diseases they prevent are.

Re: “Anti-Vaxx to the Max

Anti vaxxers should remove themselves from the herd. A 50 year longitudinal study would put this to rest nicely. Also, 50 year separation from anti science fu.dies would be refreshing.

Re: “Anti-Vaxx to the Max

One might conclude by some of the comments here that certain individuals have had more than their fair share of toxic chemical laden vaccines.

Or, it could be the case of bored, reckless juveniles playing on their parent's computers.

Either way, there's a tremendous lack of intelligence involved in their contributions to this thread.

Vaccine preventable diseases do not exist. No vaccine has ever been proven a preventative for any disease.

Vaccine induced disease, injury, illness and death. Now we're onto something!

Re: “Anti-Vaxx to the Max

I'm not really a fan of vaccines myself, but more-so in the sense that I think newborns are given way too many vaccines in too short amount of time. Their systems aren't as able to tolerate such a high concentration of chemicals as older kids. It's dangerous, space them out over more time. However, every parent should be able to decide what's best for their kid. You want your kid vaccinated? Go right ahead. Don't force it on other children though.

Re: “Anti-Vaxx to the Max

I realize that you're trying to be all cutsey with the rhyming title.

But it truly takes a special, rigid kind of fanaticism to lump in Carson--a pediatric neurosurgeon who actively vaccinates children with an outspoken wish to abolish non-medical vaccine exemptions--with those who are "anti-vax to the max."

I also know that where vaccine uptake rates are steadily rising in Idaho, by this article's own admission, that the state doesn't really fit the "anti-vax" bill either. Simply missing as much as one dose of one vaccine qualifies for a philosophical exemption in Idaho, and numerous parents vaccinate their children on delayed and selective schedules. So it is disingenuous for Dana Williams refer to children with exemptions as "unvaccinated” without providing a necessary break-down of the data.

Finally, the very real horrors of polio and the wonders of the IPV vaccine, both valid in my mind, should not be wielded to emotionally manipulate parents into full schedule compliance, including vaccinating their newborns and kindergartners for Hep B.

There are many ways to discuss vaccines, but the black-and-white thinking from this article, public health officials, and the comments is doing responsible parents no favors.

Accusations of corporatism? Check.
Shilling for 'big pharma?' Check.
Grandi? Check.
Hitler? Check.
Claims of lying and/or bullying? Check.
Vaccination = rape? Check.

It's pseudoscience bingo!

Seriously, I'm convinced that vaccines are a victim of their own success - they work so well that we forgot how bad the diseases they prevent are.

Re: “Anti-Vaxx to the Max

Re ChristyAnn's post:

I'm confident that the pro-vaxxers have no intention of resting until ALL children and adults are forced to received EVERY vaccine the pro-vaxxers want to force on them. The intolerance, the bullying, and the lying of the pro-vaxxers caught my attention long before I learned that the pro-vaxxers have no science supporting their position.

Yes, when vaccination is forced on those who don't want it--when something is forced into another's body, or into the bodies of their children, against their will--that IS rape. People like Rick Perry are truly reprehensible.

During the congressional investigation of vaccine safety ten-plus years ago, testimony was submitted pointing out that mandatory vaccination is a violation of the Nuremberg Code. Think the Nazi threat is gone? Better think again.

"The Refusers," the pro-freedom band with great song lyrics about vaccination, has one entitled, "Get Your Mandates Out of My Body." They're worth checking out.

Re: “Anti-Vaxx to the Max

Logic dictates if vaccines worked as touted, the vaccinated have nothing to fear of the unvaccinated. The flipside is, (scientifically factual) that the vaccinated can and do shed virus for weeks, even months post vaccination, hence putting others, (immune compromised) at serious risk.

You can keep the unvaccinated out of public schools, but you will find them in church, grocery stores, fast-food play areas, elevators, etc. So if you question the degree of protection of your child's vaccines, you would do well to keep them safe at home.

If vacines were safe and effective they would sell themselves. No need for mandates! As well, protection from liability for the manufacturers and those administering the shots would be a non issue.

Vaccination has been referred to as a type of rape. Makes perfect sense to me!

Do your research diligently! Keep an open and inquiring mind. There are updates out there! This is about your health and life, and that of your precious loved ones.

Read the serum package inserts. Straight from the horse's mouth!

Re: “Anti-Vaxx to the Max

The anti-vaccination movement started in the late 1700s with resistance to compulsory vaccination in the UK. Andrew Wakefield's article in 1998 was very much a late-comer with peer-reviewed articles linking vaccination to autism since the early 1900s - well before there was a word for this spectrum and it was referred to as post-vaccinal encephalitis.

Since no vaccine can convey lifelong immunity nor can it stop fully-vaccinated individuals from either contracting or spreading the diseases they are vaccinated against, it is foolish to say that people have to be vaccinated to eradicate diseases.

To quote Mahatma Ghandi:

Vaccination is a barbarous practice and one of the most fatal of all the delusions current in our time.

Conscientious objectors to vaccination should stand alone, if need be, against the whole world, in defense of their conviction.
