Re: “The Park of Death

For the faint of heart, there could be an annex on the Painted Desert where participants went at each other with Paintball gear....

Re: “The Park of Death

John, I personally LIKE your take on Idaho's own broadcast quasi-hunger-games idea! (Let me run the concessions booth at the Atomic City Amphitheater--I don't need to watch the action, but I'm not opposed to making money on the salivating viewers.)

I have been hoping for 51 of my 58 years of life that a Malthusian event would weed out the baddies, but I must admit I like this approach!

Re: “Mr. Cope's Cave: The Pariah President Who Was Right All Along

Good man, that Jimmuh Carter. Not a particularly effective president, but a good and honest man. And a refreshing departure from most of the professional politicians who have occupied the office as of late.

And - he DESERVED his Nobel Peace Prize... unlike that other guy. (Who has also elevated the stature of Carter's presidency by showing us what incompetence AND dishonesty look like.)

(Before you send your thoughts off to Jimmuh, fix the "American's" in the 4th paragraph up. I don't think the apostrophe belongs there.)

Re: “The Park of Death

Craters of the Moon IS a "National Monument." And the signage is probably there to discourage city slickers from getting themselves into trouble in what is a very harsh environment. Now and then somebody goes a-wanderin' and his/her parched remains aren't discovered for awhile.

Speaking of harsh... Mr. Rember is pretty harsh this week. Sure, the Minneapolis Safari Dentist has engaged in some pretty despicable and cowardly practices, but I don't know if society should go all "Running Man" on him...

Re: “The Park of Death

Craters of the Moon is the most unfriendly park i have ever attended. 90% of the signage is negative (don't go here, don't do this or that) uninformative, too numerous, unattractive, large and obtrusive. They should look at SLC's Botanical Garden for better examples. Maybe National Monument status might make Craters a bit more welcoming.

Re: “It's Junk, That's What!

Let's try some thinking Bill... Why do mountain lions hunt deer and not bear? The bear has claws, teeth and strength to defend himself whereas the deer's only way to protect itself is to run. Seems pretty obvious why mountain lions hunt deer and why Greenleaf has it's signs.

Re: “It's Junk, That's What!

I'm not an obsessive hillbilly; nor, am I a disordered personality. I'm a college educated, self-employed small businessman for over a quarter of a century, knowledgeable and acknowledged to be an expert in marine electronics and IT services. A father, a grandfather, a son, a brother, a teacher and to those that know me best - a good friend. I don't fall into your categories. I'm also a NRA member & belong to the oldest local gun club in my area. I've carried legally a firearm all my life since I turned 21. I hold a valid CWP in the State of Florida.
Firearm ownership is about holding close the right to defend one's self, one's family, one's friends, one's neighbors - from all forces that may array against any of those. You use the 1st Amendment quite well. Do you understand that the government you think should be the only holder of the mechanisms to defend that same right to self-expression would quickly cease to do so without the 2nd. Your own words would be decreed to be disloyal, unruly, unpatriotic, radical and worse - perhaps even worthy of your imprisonment.

Re: “It's Junk, That's What!

Hey Zach - you can tell Cope that his column about the Second Amendment is a rehash of - what? - maybe 200 previous columns about the Second Amendment.

We get it! How many times do we need to hear Cope tell us that gun owners are dangerous, mentally-defective bumpkins, and The Authorities should take their guns away?

Your mission statement says we should expect "knowledgeable, entertaining and unique opinion and analysis." Cope is opinionated on the topic but not particularly knowledgable. And in this reader's opinion, his diatribes about guns quit being "entertaining and unique" years ago!

Re: “Mr. Cope's Cave: A Prayer for Cecil*

You know who should really spend the rest of their days an outcast, a pariah, an untouchable, rejected, denounced, despised? People who react irrationally and emotionally to virtually EVERYTHING before the facts are known. Did it occur to you that the dentist may have been defrauded by the professional hunter and guide? Whether you agree with the dentist's decision to trophy hunt (which I do not), his life matters does it not? I mean afterally, I suspect you are against the death penalty for people who murder others, but for the killer of a lion you seek special inhumane punishment? Why don't we afford the dentist the benefit of innocent until proven guilty before we lynch him okay?

Re: “Faith Value

Bill, you set the bar as the most unintelligent and uncultured person I have ever encountered. Your lack of intelligence translates to hatred for those you don't understand, namely conservative Christians. Why is it you are you so bigoted and spite filled? I suspect it's an empty soul.

Re: “Red Out, Again

Bill, where do you get this tripe? Seriously? How is one who wants to live a peaceful self-sufficient agricultural lifestyle automatically a xenophobic gun nut? And living off the land makes one a parasite? Where is it you get your food Bill? It appears you're the unintelligent narrow-minded xenophobe of this story as you are clearly ignorant and fearful of those migrating to the region.

Re: “Mr. Cope's Cave: A Prayer for Cecil*

Let us say a prayer for all the lives, human and animal and plant, sacrificed at the bloody hands of selfish, degenerate mutants. I hope the dentist has an eternal toothache in Hell. I've said too much.

OK Bill, you do do researcher you. Don't need no steenkin conformation do you? Glad you made that clear before painting with such a broad brush. Without a single citation too. If you were a real journalist no one would hire you.
