Re: “Curtis Stigers: Capital High School Jazz Benefit Concert

Why are you showing a story that over a year old? This year, 2015, the concert was on Feb. 9th

Re: “Curtis Stigers: Capital High School Jazz Benefit Concert

I think the date is wrong.

Re: “TED Extends Itself to Boise

As a professional working in the Silicon Valley in the late 80’s through the 90’s I have attended a few TED Conferences in Monterey, just over the hill. While they were invitation events, it wasn't too hard to come by one of those. Nevertheless, in the “old days” the quality of the audience was determined by the interest and curiosity of the attendees. It is amazing to read that evaluating the quality of individuals who would like to attend TEDxBoise has been refined to an audience application process. One can only imagine the quality of the people who are determining the quality of each interested potential attendee. They must be stupendous, or perhaps a word that sounds similar. Conceivably the person behind this significant feat deserves to present their own TED Talk.

Re: “TED Extends Itself to Boise

It's really a questionable process. First, they want a "quality" audience, so they have them write an essay about...why they're worthy of listening to some notable community members, selected by a self-selected committee, speak for a few minutes on a dramatically lit stage? The desirability of the prize aside, a friend of mine who's very intelligent, very socially conscious and active, has something of a writing disability. He wanted to see the event, but couldn't write an essay, so gave up. Then there's the speaker selection. One of the selected speakers is the father of the event organizer. If the event is to be socially (if not professionally) credible, there should be some rules in place about that kind of thing.

Re: “Community Bookmaking Workshop at BAM

Bookmakers don't "[cheat] gamblers out of their money"--they set odds. It's a mathematical concept. So learn what words mean before you attempt silly wordplay ...

Re: “First Thursday: Downtown Boise Winter Window Gallery Stroll

Ah, the times have changed! Back when I was a kid (right here in Boise), they were CHRISTMAS windows; now they're WINTER windows. And - it was the FAIRYLAND Parade; now it's the HOLIDAY Parade!

Hopefully nobody's offended by Winter or Holidays, huh?

Re: “Old Boise Music Studios

Old Boise Music Studios is as busy as ever offering music and arts instruction to kids and adults from all over the Treasure Valley. Since the writing of this article there was clarification on the use of the name Old Boise Music Studios, which for many years has been the name used by the collective of independent professional musicians who offer private and group lessons at this location. The non-profit discussed in this article will be housed at OBMS, headed by Jordan Paige and will operate under a different name.

What happened to all of the benefit show money? Seems like this place is flop...

Re: “Conversing with Ballet Idaho and the Boise Philharmonic

Robert Franz has been such a treasure for Boise! (Shamefully for me, I can't comment on the ballet, as I haven't "tasted" their work in years. Have it on my to-do list now!)

The orchestra truly does get stronger with every performance. Given that a superlative CAN be reached, I'm not sure how long that improvement can continue--we'll soon hear the pinnacle, and aren't we lucky!

Re: “First Thursday: Dick Lee's Drawings at Boise Creative Center

I was lucky enough to participate in an event at the Boise Creative Center. Alex and his lovely wife Jamie, opened their studio and gave me an opportunity to paint for the first time on a large scale. It was exciting, but the most memorable aspect of the night was how welcome I felt. Alex, Jamie thank you for a night to remember.

Re: “Boise City Dept. of Arts and History Awards Grants

Benj is wrong - all of these sound like cool projects. Art is an essential part of our community and culture. In fact - this is just pennies as compared to what it should be.

Re: “First Thursday: The Pub Scene at Bittercreek Ale House and Bardenay

Really bummed that you guys didn't include a map in this month's listing. The DBA map sucks; it just has little balloons with no numbers or other way to map out the places you want to go without tediously having to look up each address.
