Re: “Backwards

Thanks for the memories, Cope! It's ALWAYS good to hear from BW's Gandhi-esque Voice of Reason, as he once again skewers the "Malicious Mouths"!! I'm happy he's survived 70 years! He must have a strong constitution, to avoid being corroded from inside by all that excess bile!

For the record, and at the risk of harming Cope's starry-eyed narrative:
Cope's beloved Democrats were the "loyal opposition" to the Civil Rights Act in 1964. They tried EVERYTHING to keep it from passing.
"Setback" Nixon established the Environmental Protection Agency, by executive order. (Yeah, he probably didn't wring his hands as much as Dear Leader Obama... but he did more to clean up the air, water, etc.)

It's beyond ludicrous to declare that only the people who he disagrees with, burn fossil fuel and want to avoid minorities. But that's what he seems to be doing. How the view from up on that pedestal, Bill???

He failed to mention one MAJOR legacy that the (us) Baby Boomers have established for the future generations... $20 trillion in debt. We are also the first Plastic Generation - play now, pay later. Or better yet, let the grandkids pay!!

Re: “The Curse of Being Hillary

I liked the opinion piece but you may have left a little out. Other than committed progressives, those concerned about climate change, and those who could see through the con man, the democratic base didnt turn out. Thats been shown in studies. Yes, in key Midwest states people who hadnt voted in a while turned out for Trump, but she lost because those who should have supported her didnt show up. We now have to face the fact that the Russian effort was successful. In such an election, all they had to do was cool the enthusiasm of Hillary leaners a bit and they managed to do that with the steady drip of innuendo from the released emails. Then there were the fake news stories, tactics already in use by the right fringes. I think that the rogue NY FBI office, who considered Hillary the devil incarnate and tended to listen to the conspiracy theories, set up Comey so he felt he had no choice but spring the October surprise. If the Electoral College worked the way it was intended to, they would not have confirmed Trump.

Re: “The Curse of Being Hillary

The Democrats hitching themselves to Hillary and Obama has been a disaster for the Party. In eight years the Dems have gone from majorities to minority party in both houses of Congress. Of the fifty States Dems only control three; California, Oregon, and Rhode Island. And they nominated Hillary for President despite her high negatives. To lose to someone as unpopular and untrusted as Donald Trump!
It's called voter rejection. And they're blaming everyone else for it

Re: “The Curse of Being Hillary

Mr Cope, I don't know where you research Hillary Clinton, and as I say this, with only respect to you and your opinions, Christine Marcy and Hillary Clinton run the biggest pedophilia network in the world, for starters. I am sure this sounds like I am anti Hillary, which I am, however I needed to know why this world is the way it is, so I researched and researched....! If you can prove this to be wrong, let me know.

Re: “The Nasty God

Evangelicals are the most ignorant hypocrites on the planet. They pretend they voted for Trump because they thought Hillary was "worse" which is a bunch of disingenuous bunk which was bought and sold among Trump's uneducated fake-news believing base. The real truth that they don't want to admit to is that their self-righteous "morals and values" are on a sliding scale that favors party over their sacred beliefs that they obviously only pretend to ascribe to. I mean really?! How much of their souls did these so called "god-fearing christians" have to carve out before casting a vote for a "man" who perfectly embodies 6 of the 7 Deadly Sins? The only Deadly Sin he doesn't commit is sloth and that's only because he's too busy committing the other 6. Evangelicals can no longer claim to have a moral compass and expect to be taken seriously. Jesus, who was a liberal, would be ashamed that these people claim to be his followers.

Re: “The Nasty God

Dear Bill,

Thanks for your insightful opinion piece.

I identify as an evangelical but did not vote for Trump. While some of your claims about evangelical motives for their voting practices seem a bit excessive, I do think you're onto something by pointing to the theory of depravity as at the core of many evangelical perspectives.

I also think that you were right to point to the view of God as "nasty" as a further frame for prompting the voting patterns of many of my fellow evangelicals.

I will be quoting your opinion piece favorably in my upcoming lectures.

In appreciation,

Re: “The Nasty God

This article is speaking out of true and complete ignorance! Evangelicals came out in droves to keep Hillary out of office. They knew she would put up an anti-constitution Supreme Court pick, just as Obama did..
You don't judge the many for the mistakes of a few. The Word of God is becoming more and more true with every passing day! Your ignorance astounds me!

Re: “The Nasty God

Trump is an offensive idiot but Hillary was not any better. Pick your poison. As an evangelical I can attest that most of us saw right through the Bakkers and their ilk. I would agree with Franklin Graham that God's hand was in Trump getting elected but only because God is sovereign and sometimes He lets bad things happen to teach us. See Pharaoh. That fact that He got elected does not mean He was favored by God. Why do you care so much Bill? Why the constant attacks on Christians? Look in the mirror. Maybe you're not all that perfect either.

Re: “The Nasty God

Might it be that evangelicals voted for the profane Trump, because the alternative was the pathologically-dishonest, commie/socialist reptile-eyed Hillary Clinton? (Just speaking for myself, and I'm NOT an "evangelical," but she is the ONLY reason I held my nose with one hand while voting Trump with the other.) Since Cope is a commie/socialist himself, I can understand why he DOESN'T understand.

Re: “The Lingering Stink

I met Obama, He stinks way more than Trump. You will find Obama and the wife are more stinky than you could ever guess in the coming years. I didn't like either Bush. Reagan gave me jellybeans about the same moment he was waxing some Iranians.

You are having a tizzy fit because you lost. Suck it up. How Trump got elected is the country got tired of trash and whining such as you wrote here. Example, my 5th grader came home with school district approved materials which are basically gay recruitment materials.

That is how Trump won. People finally smelled the Obama and flushed twice. Enough people pulled their heads out for the first time in a long time. Hoping our government will now focus on what it should focus on and have mass layoffs and closures of all the fluffy departments added since Nixon.

More pig-ignorant bile from the once and future Cope. The world was a better place without his steaming piles of hatred. What happened?

Re: “Running?

Ahhh... having Bill Cope back, even if it's just now-n-then, is like a breath of stale air!

I always love the unintended irony. F'r instance..."kindness is superior to cruelty." When juxtaposed against the rest of this, or pretty much any of the esteemed author's columns, it puts a smile on my face! Cope lecturing us about "kindness" is like Bill Clinton lecturing us about "fidelity"!

While Cope is gnashing his teeth and clenching his fists, it's likely that a majority of Idahoans are relieved that MAYBE the direction we are headed is finally better than than the last 8 years. (Speaking for myself, I'm hardly giving President Trump a thumbs-up of approval - the jury is still out. But, I'm relieved that we survived President Obama.)

I second Cope's notion of running for office. It's not for me, at least at this point in my life... but if you feel the urge, GO FOR IT!!! (We ARE often not given very good choices in our candidates, and government at all levels should be by CITIZENS, and not CAREER POLITICIANS.)

Re: “Defriended

I'm thinking being "defriended" isn't a shallow fraudulent friendship. It isn't a matter of surviving partisan political opinions, if it isn't obvious that Trump is mentally unbalanced and that the Republican Congress has become a threat to humankind well, it should be. This isn't a pleasant agree to disagree, let bygones be bygones, it is what it is moment. It is what you make it and right now it's a disaster!

Re: “Defriended

Your narrative hit me hard. Some of the once heavy buckets I carried are now very light. The bottoms didn't fall out, but very large holes did appear. I will tilt them to keep a hopeful bit of sand inside. I think some of my friends who voted for slumpty dumpty are feeling guilty at this point.

Re: “Defriended

What a drama queen, is Mr. Cope!

I had people under my own roof who voted for a different presidential candidate than I did. We discussed politics leading up to November 8th. They had their ideas, I had mine; I don't know if anybody's mind was changed as a result of our sometimes "lively" discussions.

On November 9th, we were all still friends!

If you were "defriended" by somebody because of how you voted - you are better off for it! What kind of shallow fraudulent friendship is it, if it won't survive differences in partisan political opinions?!!
