Re: “Best Local Bike Shop

Very honored to win Boise's Best Local Bike Shop. A little confused about the metaphor they used, but still honored.

I think Boise has a lot of Best Bicycle Shops, just best at different things. For DIY repair, used bikes and parts, education, and advocacy, yep, I'd say BBP takes the cake. Plus BBP has the hardest working staff in the history of history. But, I think there are certainly things that George's, IMT, and others are best at too. Boise is lucky to have some many great bicycle shops!

Re: “Best Local Bike Shop

It's a shame that Boise Weekly put "best local bike shop" in the "Sports and Recreation" category.

While I s'pose a sizable percentage of the population (apparently including BW) views bikes as "toys" for their recreational hobbies and whatnot, a growing percentage views them as ALSO being transportation. A bicycle has been my transportation - albeit a very enjoyable form of transportation - for coming up 30 years. So I went looking for bike shop under "Goods and Services." (Boise Bicycle Project is a good pick, as are George's and Idaho Mountain Touring.)

Re: “Best $3 Million Eddy

The Boise River Park wave schedule and the efforts of Ryan, the wave shaper, has reduced any conflicts to a mere whisper as of Fall 2014. The Boise Surf Kayak Rally in June 2014 provided a great glimpse of how the Boise River Park can and is being shared by surf, SUP and kayak enthusiasts... here is the video!! http://youtu.be/yZdxPgZEGUQ

Re: “Best Way To Show Off Boise

And it isn't just for summer! We're open year around with SUP rentals, lessons, demos, swimwear, wetsuits, drysuits and casual clothing! And we partner with the West Boise Y to provide SUP yoga and lessons on Sundays during the winter.

Re: “Best Wave

And as soon as you get the name right.... it's the Boise River Park!

Thanks a ton!

Re: “Best Local Bike Shop

As a cycling community, Boise is the complete package: Our town and the foothills at its doorstep offer something for literally everyone who rides. And who doesn't here? NOT swinging a leg over a bike at some point during the year and smiling as we pedal down the greenbelt, trail, or road is a rarity for the vast majority of us. While improvements can always be made, Boise isn't far from being the perfect cycling town. Add to the equation a whole bunch of really nice citizens who value a healthy, active lifestyle, and its no wonder that local bike shops like George's have grown and prospered here. All we have had to do at George's is try to facilitate the growth of cycling in Boise with professional service and quality products. Oh, and put on some great events. Its a simple formula. Being able to share our passion for cycling is a bonus, and its our hope that a little bit of that enthusiasm rubs off on everyone who enters the stores.

Re: “Best Local Bike Shop

I'd suggest that "Best Local Bike Shop" be categorized under "goods and services," rather than "sports and recreation." You are apparently buying into the long-held notion that bikes are toys. And they are. But they're also transportation for some of us - TOTALLY independent of "sports and recreation."

The winners are all very deserving - three GREAT shops!

Re: “Best Local Yoga Instructor

She's not the best Yoga instructor in Boise. As a matter of fact, the whole Bikram Yoga craze is a bit of a scam if you research the leader (Bikram Choudhury) of the company. They are out for your money and not your health... that's all I'll say.

Re: “Best Net Gain

Actually, the Bryan brothers did not win the doubles match on Sat. They lost and the U.S. team was behind 2-1, not tied with Serbia, after losing that doubles match.

Bikram Yoga is a rip-off. Avoid them like the plague.

Re: “Best Way to See Racers Turn Red

Not so sure it's the toughest race in the Northwest any more. The Bruneau Beast 20k (shorter than Robie mind you) had strong runners finish 30-40 minutes slower than they have done at Robie. Check it out at www.runbruneaudunes.com.

Re: “Best Gamble

I know Jo and Stan well. Their effort started long ago with Boise River 2000 in the 90's. Jo started attending Whitewater Park symposiums around 15 years ago, built a rapport with the industry's top people and kept at it ever since. They took the risk based on everything we know today about Boise. People live here for lots of reasons, chief among them is our unmatched outdoor and urban lifestyle. With the best whitewater in the lower 48, our love of our local river and the year around possibilities Boise provides, the development made good sense. In business for over 25 years and really the only year around paddling shop anywhere nearby, plus their commitment to supporting the success of all community outdoor groups from Idaho Rivers United to the City's Adapted Adventure programs, IRS has always made a positive difference.

Re: “Best Sweating Like a Health-Conscious Pig

Why do people all over the world swear by Bikram Yoga? Because it works. It is now a franchise, but Bikram says this is to keep it pure and undiluted. In fact, to keep it true to the original Hatha yoga prescribed by Patangaji, having EVERYTHING to do with the art of Yoga. Bikram is the first to teach yoga in a heated room, the original hot yoga.

The owners of Bikram Boise ARE local. Bikram Corporate gives, nor receives any money from the studio.

Before you negatively judge, give it a good try first. See if you notice the benefits to your body and mind, like so many others. Meet Jamie and Billy, the friendly local owners. Notice for yourself there's no mold and often smells like peppermint, lavender, and tea tree.

Ask yourself why you're negatively judging, and then ask, "If yoga means union, is it yogic to judge, or is it merely a reflection of an unresolved issue within me?"

Whatever path can lead you to a unification of Mind, Body, and Spirit, is your personal path to living the art of Yoga.

Re: “Best Sweating Like a Health-Conscious Pig

Really, BW? This is like saying the Best Sandwich is from Subway. With our thriving outdoor scene, and unique, local fitness studios, there are soooo many waaaaay better, Non-Corporate ways to sweat than this.

Wow, I think I'll start going just for the great scenery.
