Re: “Blue is the Warmest Color: Banned in Boise?

Thank you, George, and thank you Boise Weekly, for this important piece of reporting that reminds us that--despite the sense of living in a progressive bubble in Boise--censorship exists by design, and through complicity. Do we really need to be drinking wine and beer to watch a movie? If that's what's restricting cultural autonomy, then perhaps it's time for The Flicks to consider that--as progressive as it might seem to offer liquor to their patrons--it would be more progressive to offer true international cinema, instead of booze.

Re: “A Song of Life

This is a great write-up, George, thank you so much. I'm looking forward to attending the benefit screening this coming Sunday at The Flicks. Even more so armed with this background information.

Re: “More Holiday Fun

This was a wonderful trip down Memory Lane. I remember these toys!! Though it's kind of sad to monitor how toys have capsized into electronic gadgets in recent years. Ah well. There's no stopping progress, even at Christmastime.

Re: “Who Are They Now? Shining a Modern Light on Holiday Mainstays

A truly imaginative (if ever so slightly cynical) gallery of our Christmas favorites. Thank you for sharing these with us, Adam.

Re: “UPDATED WITH VIDEO: Occupy Boise Takes Message to Capitol Steps

I would also like to thank the Boise Police Department for having the God-given sense not to stifle peaceful assembly. What's happening at these events across the country--New York and San Francisco, specifically--is unconscionable.

Re: “Critic-Proof

A sensible argument and one of the reasons why I favor film festival coverage and interviewing unknown artists over theatrical distribution and celebrity journalism. I agree that there's little point to writing about blockbusters since their built-in audiences are critic proof; however, I beg to differ with your blanket generalization that movies are either bad or good. If a binary value judgment has to be applied, then perhaps I'd agree to bad or good reactions to films. One man's irritant is another man's pearl.
