Re: “UPDATE: Capital City Public Market Founder Karen Ellis Fired by Board

I was among those few booths in the early days, and I can say with clarity that Karen Ellis is a wonderful market manager, working tirelessly and often without compensation. She ran the Market in the spirit that vendors could afford to join, participate, earn seniority and become successful in their individual business. She was supportive, creative and, at times, opinionated and strict, but never from a personal perspective - it was always about Boise's Market. Early Market meetings were enthusiastic and members were supportive of the coming season. Once the Board was instilled, the meetings took a strange turn that only got uglier as the egos of the Board members began to clash with original vendors and the original Market concept. I left the area nearly 7 years ago but continued to hear about the goings on at the Market and the ugliness with the Board. The Market became a monster, both in size and in the Board's greed. I only hope that Karen begins again, returning to the smaller Market and intimate venue of the early days. Let this one become something else, it's got a destiny of it's own now.

I always thought it was unfortunate, Karen's willingness to look beyond the character of some of the people she accepted into the market and, somehow, allow them to get into a board position.
