Re: “Europe Is Saved ... For Now

I would suggest that there is a need to ‘manage down’ the expectations as to what the state can and should provide. If the state was only the size that the private sector could comfortably support there would be no need for the huge borrowings that many countries are saddled with. It is not going to happen of course because there are too many people with a Greek approach to the realities of economic life. Sadly, I think it is going to get a lot worse than it is now.

Re: “Romney Supports Keeping Student Loan Interest Rates Lower

I would imagine it's more of a cost-benefit analysis: the military allows studios to use it's soldiers, aircraft and various semi-intellectual-property in return for good PR and boosted recruitment numbers. This costs money and time, and the military doesn't want to bother when there are weird political implications, like being portrayed as of secondary importance to a Shield. At best (for the military) Shield could be an extra-governmental force with international components. Realistically that limits its reach enough that it will almost always revert to an international force; the world of comic books does not like it's world defense team controlled by a north american command center when the world is in peril.

Re: “Moodys Downgrades Big Banks' Credit Ratings

Our economy cannot be grown, let us deal with that fact and understand that we can live happier better lives with less. This news is not political, it is reality and I hope it teaches those on the right who believe free markets can solve our economic woes and those on the left who believe in full employment a lesson. We need problem solvers not political ideologues.
