Re: “Anti-Teen Tanning Bill Burned by Idaho House

I find these comments to be concerning and a representation on why HB 268 was so important. Many Idahoans are uneducated about the risks of tanning. Idaho has the highest death rate of melanoma (lethal skin cancer) than any other state in the country. There is ample evidence from medical institutions that the UVA/UVB rays found in artificial tanning beds leads to skin cancer. There is even more evidence that the earlier one starts tanning, the earlier they develop skin cancer and put themselves at a much higher risk. Additionally, I am very concerned with patient's health care dollars. HB 268 would save tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of dollars in out of pocket expenses for patients. There is no argument, tanning leads to cancer. The same argument is used for alcohol and tobacco restrictions.
