Re: “Oh, The Places They Went: Boise Officials Racked Up Some Significant Frequent Flier Miles

Conference fees often include cost of banquets and luncheons allowing public employees to exceed cost per meal limits or god forbid, getting reimbursed on expense vouchers for meals covered in conference fees. Scrutiny of conference promotional literature is required to avoid these abuses.

Re: “How Agriculture in Ada County is Being Edged Off the Map

As someone who has watched this process for 40 years, welcome to the realization that we aren't what we used to be. We used to hunt pheasants where Capital High School sits, and thousands of acres of seed corn provided food for 750,000 mallards wintering on Lake Lowell.

Gone are Manley's, State Street Court, The Pantry, The Royal, the Save-on, Murphy's, etc., but we have 23 McDonalds! Growth sucks!

Re: “Rough Road: The Trials and Tribulations of Biking in Boise

Having survived two life threatening bicycle accidents, the latter requiring life saving emergency brain surgery, my adivice to anyone commuting by bicycle to:

1. Avoid motorized vehicle traffic at all costs. Use residential streets with light traffic, not major transportation corridors.

2. Drive defensively. You may have all the rights of the road, but you won't enjoy them if dead. Drive as if every motorist is out to kill you.

Re: “UPDATE: Graphic Video Taken at Bettencourt Dairies Shows 'Culture of Cruelty,' Says Mercy for Animals

Correction: These are not dairies. They are milk factories, bearing little resemblance to the agriculture we grew up with. Folks, this is where your milk comes from unless you are a discriminating shopper that insists on organic, small dairy products.

Re: “Denver Presidential Debate: In Defense of Moderator Jim Lehrer

The moderator needs one of two things: When a speaker's time is up a claxon should sound and not terminate until the speaker stops talking, or; the moderator should have a microphone cutoff switch and cut the speaker off. Wednesday's debate was not moderated.
