A Western Idaho Fair-ly Awesome App

Western Idaho Fair, a Boise classic, enters the digital age

The Western Idaho Fair is well known in southwestern Idaho as one of the most exciting events around. With 10 summer days of nonstop carnival rides, livestock and art shows, food vendors (showcasing all things deep fried and served on a stick), live music and more, what’s not to like? Actually, in past years there has been one thing: It’s hard to know where to look first.

  • The new Western Idaho Fair app will allow users to locate their favorite attractions, like the Ferris wheel, on a interactive map.

This year, WIF has solved that age-old problem. For its 120th season, the fair has released an app for Android and iPhone users, complete with a searchable schedule of events and an interactive map that makes wayfinding easy.

According to Ada County spokesperson Kate McGwire, the idea for an app has been brewing for several years, but didn’t come to fruition until 2017 because WIF organizers were considering a mobile website instead. After deciding on an app, local developers CLM Marketing & Advertising quickly sprang into action to make it happen.

The app can be used to create a personalized schedule of fair fun: Use it to find a giant turkey leg, look up the start time for the choicest concerts, or even scope out the food on offer by browsing vendor descriptions from home. If this app sounds fair-ly awesome, be sure to download it (search for Western Idaho Fair) on iTunes or Google Play before the fair opens Friday, Aug. 18.
