Aaron Lewis

Sept. 23, Knitting Factory

Over his 20-year career, Aaron Lewis has accrued multiple platinum designations and a Grammy nomination, both as a solo recording artist and frontrunner for the rock group Staind. The singer has long had one foot in country music and another in rock, but since 2011 his solo career has taken the reigns. On Saturday, Sept. 23, Lewis will make a stop in Boise to promote his sophomore solo album, Sinner (2016, Dot Records), which he calls "a newer take on classic traditional Outlaw country."

After a reintroduction to the country music he grew up on, Lewis challenged himself to steer the genre away from pop and back to its pre-Dolly Parton roots. Sinner is full of dark thoughts and hard truths wrapped up in southern twang.

"As weird as it may sound, my comfort zone is writing about the things that are deep and dark and torturous," Lewis told Rolling Stone. Maybe that's why he marries rock and country so well.
