Re: “Sali and the Muslims

U.S. Rep. Bill Sali and his supporters would do well to recall that Muslims have been a part of this country from the beginning and before. Specifically, the captains of the other two ships of Columbo (Columbus), being the Nina and Pinta were both Muslim. The first to die in Boston (Crispus) was a Muslim. Thomas Jefferson, the writer of the Declaration of Independence possessed the Qur'an which Rep. Ellison used for his Oath of Office. The Pledge of Allegiance isn't Christian, it is Monotheistic (...under God... not under Christ). Islam is the premiere example of Monotheism, deploring all associations with God Almighty (recall the 1st Commandment of the Jewish Torat..."Thou shall have no other God before Me."). The ascertain that the Founding Fathers did not intend pluralism is unsubstantiated and false. The whole concept was argued and indoctrinated in the U.S. Constitution, which Mr. Sali may desire to puruse from time to time. The true nature of a religion is not borne in a slogan, anthem or pledge, but in the living according to the doctrine which the Believer espouses. I wonder if the good Mr. Sali and his supporters and like thinkers have truly read and contemplated the entire Bible. My guess is they have not, but understand their religion from sound-bite sermons and cliff-note doctrine. For if one truly read the entire Bible and accepted it (especially the Old Testament) and then read the Qur'an with an unbiased mind, they would see striking similarities and the continuance of the Message of the Lord of Universe. Oh you who Believe, fear your Lord and sew not discourse among men.
