Ada County's Record-Setting Construction Season

Even the Ada County Highway District is calling this summer “constructionmageddon.”
The record-breaking road work season has officially begun in Ada County with more than 91 projects, totaling $61 million, springing up across the region, many of them in Boise.

“This is definitely our busiest construction year, ever,” said ACHD public information specialist Nicole DuBois.

As part of the Downtown Boise Implementation Plan, a number of high-profile roadways will be resurfaced in the next few months, including:
  • Second Street between Myrtle and Front streets
  • Fourth Street between Grove and State streets
  • Avenue A between Myrtle and Front streets
  • Front Street between 13th and 16th streets
  • River Street between Ninth Street and Capitol Boulevard
  • Eighth Street between Myrtle and Broad streets
  • Broad Street between Eighth and Ninth streets
  • Grove Street between Third and Sixth streets

“We’ll do our absolute best to minimize the impact,” said DuBois. “When a road or intersection has to close, we’ll try to limit that to weekends, if possible.”

Meanwhile, the massive reconstruction of the Boise intersection of State Street and Veterans Memorial Parkway has brought morning and afternoon rush hour commutes to a near-standstill. The ultimate plan is to replace left-hand turns at that intersection with U-turns just outside of the major intersection that will cause traffic to take circuitous loops.

“Eventually, this will mean better, safer roadway infrastructure for all of us,” reads an official statement on the ACHD website. “In the same way that we survived ‘snowmageddon,’ we can get through this with a bit of planning and patience.”
