Between its new store on Broadway Avenue and its recent announcement of in-store meals from the delivery service Plated, Albertsons has been making a lot of headlines. But the Boise-based grocery store chain is far from slowing down—in fact, it's ramping up the innovation, and revealed today it will partner with local business incubator Trailhead on a competition for food startups.

Dubbed "Trailmix" and held in conjunction with the third-annual Boise Startup Week, the contest, which takes place Thursday, Oct. 18, will pit food entrepreneurs against each other for a chance to win a meeting with Albertsons' sales managers, product placement in the Broadway Albertsons and a one-year Trailhead membership (with all the connections that entails). Even better, a truly intriguing product could go on to score spots on shelves in a total of 83 regional groceries in the Intermountain Division of Albertsons Companies.

A group of food industry gurus and entrepreneurs will choose a winner from the five most promising submissions, while another 15-20 companies will have the chance to display their products to event attendees at Trailhead on Oct. 18. From those, the public will get to select a "People's Choice" product that they'd like to see in their local Albertsons stores.

“Boise and Idaho have an incredible history of food innovation. Trailhead is honored to
partner with one of the original innovators, Albertsons, to help find the next handful of
companies that will launch in Boise and continue that tradition,” said Trailhead Board of Directors Chair Nic Miller in a press release.

Submissions are already open, and food entrepreneurs can apply to compete in Trailmix on the Boise Startup Week website.
