A Boise man is behind bars Feb. 22 after being charged with rape and second degree felony kidnapping.

At about 11 a.m. Feb. 21, witnesses to a disturbance at a hotel located near N. 26th Street and Fairview Avenue told Boise police a man was holding a woman in a room against her will. Officers also found evidence of sexual assault and domestic battery.

Officers used a Taser to detain the male suspect after he became aggressive with the police, at one point reaching into a bag for an unknown object. The suspect continued to be aggressive, struggling against arrest while in handcuffs.

Police took Jay Roberts, 45, of Boise, to a nearby hospital where he was cleared for release and taken to the Ada County Jail, charged with felony kidnapping-second degree, felony domestic battery, felony rape and misdemeanor resisting or obstructing officers.

The Boise Police Department Victim Services Unit is providing assistance to the alleged victim.

Meanwhile, another Boisean has been booked into the Ada County Jail, charged with felony child enticement over the Internet.

After receiving information about a man allegedly using the Internet to persuade a 10-year-old female to engage in sex acts, investigating officers uncovered evidence that the suspect had sent the alleged victim lewd pictures over the Internet. Police arrested the suspect, Dale Caldrer, 35, of Boise, the evening of Feb. 20 at a location where he believed he could meet the child.

Citizens who suspect online sexual exploitation of a child are encouraged to contact the Boise Police Department at 208-377-6790 or call 911.
