It was hours before AT&T confirmed what customers in Idaho and Wyoming already knew on Feb. 9: no outbound calls could be made on the network.

Company officials said regional "routing issues" were to blame, and by late Monday afternoon, thousands of AT&T customers had turned to the website to report multiple outage issues. In Wyoming, an alert from the Teton County Emergency Management team confirmed multiple cellphone outages on the AT&T network had also plagued their area.

In Boise, KBOI-TV reported Monday evening that AT&T and even some Cricket Wireless customers were affected by the routing issues, adding the outages appeared to "affect customers across southern Idaho." Customers reported they were able to send and receive texts and receive incoming calls but were unable to make outgoing calls.

AT&T said outgoing phone service had been restored by mid-evening Monday.
