It's an unfortunate fact that scandal is nothing new to the Roman Catholic Church, but Tuesday's revelation that it had covered up child sexual abuse by more than 300 priests over 70 years in Pennsylvania was jaw-dropping. The New York Times reports that a grand jury investigation found more than 1,000 identifiable victims. It was the broadest examination yet by a government agency in the U.S. of sexual abuse in the church.

An Eagle man is behind bars, charged with failing to notify authorities of a death, after law enforcement said he drove to a local fire station with a dead body in his pickup. Investigators said they believe the deceased, a 26-year-old woman, died of a heroin overdose at the suspect's home. The Eagle Fire Department reported that 26-year-old Zachary Pennisi arrived at a fire station on Floating Feather Road early Tuesday morning. The woman was declared dead at the station. Pennisi told Ada County Sheriff's deputies that he had found the woman in his driveway, but investigators said they found evidence that his story was not accurate. Pennisi is being held at the Ada County Jail.
