Peter Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake is one of the most well-known and enduring ballets of all time, so it's no surprise that Ballet Idaho chooses to perform it often—usually to a packed house. With that past success in mind, Ballet Idaho is offering presale tickets to the upcoming April 20 and 21 productions this year, letting some loyal fans beat the rush.

"It's a wonderful, wonderful story that's perfectly suited to ballet," said Ballet Idaho Artistic Director Peter Anastos. "...It's like the 'Mona Lisa' coming to Boise. It really is an international world masterpiece, and I think for those reasons people really should come and see it. You should have it under your belt."

Not only is Swan Lake a can't-miss classic, it will also be the last Ballet Idaho production choreographed by Anastos before his retirement. He has chosen to make the ending of the story a happy one; instead of taking their own lives at the close of the show, lovers Odette and Prince Siegfried will sail away together on a small golden boat to paradise. Anastos hopes his own story with Ballet Idaho will have a similarly positive denouement.

"It's great to go out on a high like Swan Lake," said Anastos. "...[But] I didn't want this to be a punctuation mark. I want the life of the company to continue."

Though a bit behind its target timeline, Anastos said Ballet Idaho has narrowed candidates for his replacement down to two. The pair are doing their final interviews this month, and if things go as planned, Anastos should have a new artistic director to introduce by the end of the season.

Tickets for Swan Lake go on sale to the public Wednesday, Jan. 24, but patrons can snag them now through the Ballet Idaho website using the promo code "ODETTE." Prices range from $38-$58.
