Barenaked Ladies

Outlaw Field, June 7

Yes, Barenaked Ladies was inducted into the Canadian Hall of Fame just one year after debuting the home-country homage “Canada Dry” on its newest album—but if anyone thinks that salute to patriotism is what got the rock band through the doors, they clearly aren’t familiar with its 30-year track record. Since forming in 1988, Barenaked Ladies has released 15 albums, which have sold over 14 million copies. Of those, the band claims Fake Nudes (Raisin' Records, 2017) is its “most dynamic album to date,” “referencing Leonard Cohen and The Princess Bride with equal ease.” Even if Boiseans don’t appreciate the group’s genre-defying range when it plays at the Idaho Botanical Gardens Outlaw Field, they should appreciate the joke in the album’s title—a reference to both President Donald Trump’s “fake news” claims and the fact that despite its name, the band has yet to appear on stage in the buff.
