In 2003, Karsten Heuer and Leanne Allison joined the Porcupine Caribou Herd on their epic life journey from wintering to calving grounds in Alaska's Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, and back again. Then they headed straight to Washington, D.C., to tell politicians and activists what they found: The herd's delicate habitat is threatened by proposed petroleum and natural gas development.
