Re: “Triumph of the Swill

How did a movie review turn into troop bashing? While Rall makes some interesting arguments he totally misses the point. The movie is definitely more apolitical than this review? While Rall is quick to jump on the soldiers for all the negative things that have happened he never acknowledges that this movie is not about the U.S. government, the Army as a whole, or even the Iraqis. This movie is about the experience of a handful of soldiers. I deployed with a battalion of over 800 soldiers and none of them fired at someone unless they were fired upon first or a perimeter had been breached. The comments that, "U.S. troops had been trained to shoot first" and "They didn't care about civilians," is completely erroneous and unwarranted. I can't speak for everyone else, but we were taught to use escalation of force and made conscious efforts not engage anyone we were not 100% sure was the enemy. Take the movie for what it is. Don't use it as a platform to make completely ridiculous comments to support your ignorant opinion.
