For seven of the last eight years, the badass bakers at Zeppole Baking Co. have stolen this top spot along with the city's heart—and stomach. Open the doors of Zeppole on Eighth Street and you will be greeted by the aroma of fresh-baked loaves, a scent locals thrive on at lunch time when they stop in for Old World loaves, sandwiches on Village Loaf, Challah or Focaccia and bowls of soup with bottomless bread on the side. With a record of perfect bites and donations of unsold loaves to local charities, there's nothing about Zeppole not to love.

2nd Place: Pastry Perfection—The showroom on Glenwood Street is heaven for anyone in search of sweets. Bagels and baguettes are available, but it's the cookies, cakes, donuts and giant cinnamon rolls that really steal the show.

3rd Place: Janjou Patisserie—Janjou is a tiny slice of Europe smack dab in the middle of the City of Trees. With James Beard-nominated pastry chef Moshit Mizrachi-Gabbitas at the helm, this bakery turns out the best croissants this side of the Atlantic (and maybe anywhere). The secret? Professional training and locally made butter.
