Boise GreenBike Brings Back Cranksgiving Bike Ride for Third Year

For the last two years, Cranksgiving has been the perfect plug-in to Thanksgiving, combining bike-riding, a scavenger hunt and afterparties. With the event going into its third year, sponsors Boise GreenBike, St. Luke's and SelectHealth will keep the wheels spinning with still more riding, searching for manifest items, social good and drinking.

The concept is simple: Teams of up to four riders—one of them must be astride a Boise GreenBike—race to pick up items to fill Thanksgiving food boxes and complete challenges. Each rider should bring $10-$15 to buy items on their manifests. Once the items are collected, the Thanksgiving boxes will go to St. Vincent de Paul, which will distribute them to the needy.

Following what amounts to an alleycat race, racers can swing by an afterparty at Clairvoyant Brewing, where there will be food and beer, as well as a prize raffle benefitting Idaho Advocates for Community Transportation, and ACHD Commuteride will have a van parked out front to encourage people to donate cans of food.

This year, the event will take place on Saturday, Nov. 17, with packet and bike pick-up starting at Boise GreenBike World Headquarters (106 E. 34th St. in Garden City) at 10 a.m. and the race starting at 11 a.m. The afterparty will run from 1-5 p.m. at Clairvoyant Brewing, located at 2800 W. Idaho St. in Boise.

Cranksgiving is free to enter, and there will be prizes awarded to teams that are the fastest, slowest, wear the best costumes and have the biggest turkey.
