What started in the 1980's as a national effort to push back against urban crime, National Night Out has grown into block parties, festivals and cookouts in thousands of communities, including Boise, in all 50 states on the first Tuesday in August.

Elected officials, law enforcement, firefighters, paramedics and caregivers will be fan out across the City of Trees tomorrow evening in an effort to generate more participation in local anti-crime programs, strengthen police/community partnerships and send a bigger message to criminals, letting them know that more neighborhoods are "organized and fighting back."
