Six months after conducting a long-overdue pilot project to provide a safe drop-off and pick-up zone on weekend nights in Boise's downtown core, the City of Boise announced today that it will reboot the concept but shift its location, beginning this Friday, Nov. 2.

The zone will provide a block-long spot for the public, taxis and ride-share companies (i.e. Uber, Lyft) to allow passengers to get in and out of vehicles between the hours of 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. on Fridays/Saturdays and Saturdays/Sundays.

Last spring, the City of Boise piloted a month-long curbside pick-up and drop-off zone on Main Street between Fifth and Sixth streets, but congestion proved to be an issue. That's why officials have shifted the new zone to Main Street between Capitol Boulevard and Fifth Street. The pilot program, beginning this weekend, will run through the end of the year. If it's successful, city officials said they'll implement the zone as a permanent weekend fixture on Friday and Saturday nights.

Downtown visitors are being asked not to park in the zone during the appointed drop-off/pick-up time slots. Vehicles parked in the zone during those hours will be towed.
