UPDATE: June 16, 2016

Less than 24 hours after asking for the public's assistance, releasing a sketch of a suspect in a June 12 sexual assault, Boise Police announced late Thursday that they had arrested a Boise man in connection with the incident. BPD said a citizen tip led to the arrest.

Boise Police and Boise State University officials a "Bronco alert" in the pre-dawn hours of June 12, shortly after a woman reported that she was sexually assaulted in a home on Monitou Avenue, just south of the main campus.

A composite sketch was widely distributed and BPD said a tip led them to information to identify the suspect. Detectives from the Boise Police Department Special Victims Unit acquired further evidence and located the suspect, taking him into custody June 16.

Joseph Purcell, 35, of Boise, was booked into the Ada County Jail on felony charges of forcible penetration with a foreign object and burglary.

"That community assistance and the cooperation of the victim and detectives working together put a lot of minds at ease now that this arrest has been made," said BPD SVU Sergeant Darren Mitchell in a release.

Boise police have released a sketch of the suspect in a sexual assault reported near the campus of Boise State University in hopes the public will assist in the investigation.

Boise State officials issued a so-called "Bronco alert" in the early morning hours of June 12 after a female said she was a victim of sexual assault at a Manitou Avenue residence south of the main campus.

While Boise police said they were able to work with the victim on a sketch of the suspect, she could not accurately describe the man's eyes because he reportedly covered them before fleeing on foot.

The suspect is described as a white male with dark hair; about 40 to 45 years old; between five feet, eight inches and five feet, 10 inches tall; with pockmarked skin and protruding ears.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers at 343-COPS. Information can also be left at 343COPS.com. Those with information can remain anonymous and can earn a reward of up to $1,000 if the tip leads to a felony arrest.
