Re: “Otter Lawyers Up on Parks and Rec Dismantling

Show the love: Ski for Harriman State Park
ISLAND PARK — Local outdoors woman, Kate Chase, has organized Kick & Glide for Harriman State Park, a group ski event to express support for the recreation opportunities available to area residents and visitors at Harriman State Park.

People are invited to show their love of this Island Park and southeast Idaho treasure but meeting at the park at 1 p. m. Sunday, January 17 to be part of a group photo. The photo will be sent to Gov. Butch Otter, who has asked the legislature to eliminate the state Parks and Recreation Department, a move that could result in dissolving Harriman State Park. That’s because the Harriman family donated the property to the state of Idaho with the condition that it be managed by a professional parks agency. Otter wants the state Department of Lands to manage the state’s park. This arrangement dos not appear to honor the Harriman gift agreement, according to some officials at the governor’s office.

Ski traditional style, skate, or snowshoe. Just be there at 1 p. m. with a smile on your face and kick & glide for Harriman!

Chase has also designed a petition asking Otter to keep the Parks and Recreation Department. The petition is on the Care2 Network’s Web site, Click on “Petitions,” and then look for the title, “Keep Idaho Department of Parks & Recreation.” Or, Google “Care 2 petition Idaho parks.” Chase hopes at least 1,000 people sign the petition on line.
