Call for nominations for 2006 Governor's Awards

It's time again to give out some gold stars to some deserving people--the deadline for nominations for the 2006 Governor's Awards is looming.

Presented by the governor and the Idaho Commission on the Arts, the Governor's Awards are given every two years in recognition of excellence in the arts in Idaho. Besides recognition, the awards are designed to encourage, stimulate and support awareness of the arts throughout the state.

Nominees must be residents of Idaho, a business based in Idaho or an organization or community that has "made a significant contribution to the cultural life in Idaho and to the arts through creative accomplishments or distinguished service."

Categories of recognition include Excellence in the Arts; Excellence in Folk and Traditional Arts; Support of the Arts; Support of Arts Education; and Excellence in Arts Administration.

All nominations must include support materials and remember, this is a one-time thing: former recipients are not eligible to win again.

Support materials should include: For visual arts and traditional arts, one set of 10 slides or a CD; for literature, copies of three publications or three scripts, not to exceed 10 double-spaced pages; and for performing arts, traditional arts and media, a CD, audiotape or videotape. Nomination form and support materials should be current (letters of recommendation can be up to three years old). Other support materials may cover a lifetime of professional achievement.

The ICA will review all nominations and make its recommendations to Gov. Kempthorne.

For more information on requirements, rules and support materials, or to download a nomination form, visit the ICA Web site at www.arts.idaho.gov.

Nominations must be postmarked by March 17.
