Our top story tonight: Carolyn Holly is leaving Channel 7.

It's not uncommon to see young reporters cycle through Boise's network television news channels much quicker than we can even remember their names. If one of them sticks around for five years, they're considered veterans.

Not so with KTVB-7, where Holly, Dee Sarton and Mark Johnson have lived up to their titles as "anchors" of the news.

After nearly 33 years behind a microphone at the station, it was a bit of a stunner Tuesday evening when Holly announced she was signing off. Holly anchored the morning news broadcast through much of the 1980s and in 1990 began anchoring the prime time news.

"I will miss all the wonderful people I have worked with at KTVB," Holly said during the Oct. 6 10 p.m. broadcast. "They are the most talented, determined and civic-minded individuals around. We are family here and I will miss them greatly."

She won't be leaving KTVB right away; Holly's final day on-air is Feb. 26, 2016, giving Channel 7 plenty of time to send her off with great fanfare. She also won't be leaving the media profession.

Within minutes of Holly's announcement, Saint Alphonsus Health System announced Holly would soon become their vice president of Marketing, Communications and Public Relations.

"We are excited to bring Carolyn's extraordinary skills and knowledge to Saint Alphonsus," said Saint Al's President and CEO Rodney Reider in a prepared statement.
