City of Boise Issues First Annual Report on Anti-Discrimination Ordinance 

In its first annual report, detailing city records on Boise's anti-discrimination ordinance, the City Attorney's Office says the Boise Police Department received two complaints, alleging discrimination under the ordinance.

It has been more than a full year since the city of Boise, bucking the Idaho Legislature's refusal to "add the words," passed its own ordinance to prohibit discrimination in the areas of housing, employment and public accommodation on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity/expression.

But an ordinance is only as good as its enforcement. And so a civil screening attorney in the Boise City Attorney's Office conducts a review based on any complaints of alleged discriminatory conduct. If needed, a mediator facilitates any possible mediation with the complainant and alleged discriminating party. In the event the parties decide against mediation or in the event mediation is unsuccessful, the case many be filed for criminal charges.

In its first annual report, detailing city records on Boise's anti-discrimination ordinance, the City Attorney's Office says the Boise Police Department received two complaints, alleging discrimination under the ordinance, and both focused on discrimination in public accommodation. Details aren't available yet, because both are still under investigation.

The same report also indicates that there has been a "dramatic" increase of same-sex crime reporting since the implementation of the ordinance.
