Re: “Fact Check: IACI Shackles Balukoff to Obama, Higher Levies

AJ is a hard working, honest, and genuine individual who is moderate enough to work with the Idaho legislature. From talking to many Idaho residents, I have heard that Otter will no longer be so warmly welcomed by Idahoans who have witnessed and experienced detrimental cuts to education and frivolous spending of taxpayer dollars. AJ would be more than mindful of government spending within Idaho and would certainly ensure that money expended is spent well on important investments to improve the livelihood of Idahoans and their precious schools and businesses.

Re: “U.S. Supreme Court Upholds State Bans of Affirmative Action

I certainly agree that under-represented minorities lose ground in the realm of college education, but it's not up to public universities to remedy this. Affirmative action must start from the ground up, i.e. in low income neighborhoods we need to find ways to get better teachers, schools, extracurriculars, etc. More often than not legacy scholars and athletes are held to the same, if not higher standard than a traditional student. There are exceptions to this rule, but the goal of affirmative action, in its true sense, is not to take away from other groups to benefit a repressed group; the goal is to "level the playing field" by giving minorities some sort of advantage that does not take away from others. But as stated before, the advantage needs to be given well before they are adults trying to get into college.

Re: “U.S. Supreme Court Upholds State Bans of Affirmative Action

Marque: Hmm, no reason to pit races and classes against each other. Legacy scholarships are incredibly beneficial to students and universities, alike. At most, if not all, post-secondary educational institutions, there are very strict requirements to qualify for a legacy scholarship and/or stipend. In order to qualify for a legacy scholarship, the student must have a certain GPA, community service hours, and extracurricular involvement in addition to having immediate family as alumni. It is a huge and false assumption to assume that you get money from a university or college simply by having rich alumni as parents.
