Two different headlines attempted to tell the same story this morning.

"Man Arrested for Attempted Rape at Coeur d'Alene Press," reported Spokane's KREM-TV.
"Press Employee Thwarts Attempted Kidnap," reported the Coeur d'Alene Press.

The Coeur d'Alene Press article reported a kidnapping/attempted rape at its headquarters in the pre-dawn hours of Nov. 1.

"The 27-year-old female victim inside the building said she arrived to work at 5:25. Moments later, Jason A. Edwards, 44, a dock worker for the Press, came into the building and told her that her friend was waiting to talk to her outside. The victim was alone in the office at the time," reported the Press

The woman told police that once outside, Edwards put a knife to her stomach and started leading her to a van. The woman said she was able to break free, take the knife from her alleged assailant and cut him. She then she ran back inside, locked herself in an office and called police.

Law enforcement took the man into custody not far from his home and charged him with kidnapping, aggravated assault, attempted rape, burglary and DUI. KREM-TV reports police identified Edwards as a registered sex offender with a previous conviction of "lewd conduct against a 4-year-old female."
