When Boise Weekly spoke with newly inaugurated College of Idaho President Dr. Charlotte Borst at the beginning of the 2016 fall semester, we quizzed her on her immediate and long-term plans for the college. For example:

Boise Weekly: Does C of I have a five- or 10-year plan?

Borst: Our current strategic plan ends in 2016. My task is to bring some new strategic thinking. What I think we need is to map out a way to grow the college.

BW: Literally?

Borst: The student body. We have the capacity to do it.

BW: Wouldn't you need more dormitory space?

Borst: That's the one thing we would need.

As promised, the College of Idaho announced Monday it is launching what it called a three-phase plan to improve existing residence halls and add new residential housing space to the Caldwell campus.

The first phase will include a $4 million renovation of historic Voorhees Hall, built in 1912. The second phase will include a $4 million upgrade to Finney Hall, and the third and most ambitious phase includes a $9 million construction of a new, suite-style residential complex that will provide 90 additional student beds.

The new residence hall is slated for construction beginning in summer 2017 at the corner of Illinois Avenue and Oak Street on the south side of campus.
